Athlete's foot?

I noticed DS's toes were red and cracking and did a google search, and I think he had AF.  I put Lamisil on as directed, and it has cleared up, but I skipped a day, and it seemed red again.  I think his shoes and socks get sweaty at DC, but they can't take them off there.  We take them off as soon as we get home, and we have been changing out his (footed) PJs every night, now (normally, we would use one pair for a couple of nights).  Anything else you have done if you have dealt with this? Maybe i need to treat his shoes with something?  Or do baking soda in his shoes to help stay dry?

  • It's a fungus, so I would suggest treating his shoes.

Also, does he wear the same shoes every day?  Letting him rotate shoes will give the others a chance to completely dry out/air out.

You might also see if the daycare can accommodate taking his shoes off when he naps with a doctor's note.  Wearing footwear is a safety precaution but if they are accommodating a medical condition they might be allowed to let his feet air out when he sleeps.

You could also send changes of socks and ask them to change his socks before or after nap time.

  • PS - I'd skip the footed pajamas at night and let him sleep without socks.  Check on him in the middle of the night to make sure his feet aren't freezing but if his little toes sweat that much chances are his feet are hot and could use some air.

  • DD has this too...just peely skin between some of her toes, not really red or anything. For some reason it never really occurred to me to do anything about it, but Lamisil is probably a good idea. Unfortunately, going without shoes/socks or sleeping in non-footie PJs is just not an option here since it's so stinkin' cold this time of year. We have her 3 year well child visit next month (!!), so I will ask about it then.

  • I've dealt with it on me and SS but not on the little ones.

Powder their little tooties! And cotton socks will let them breathe, polyester keeps the moisture trapped in there. I'd also sprinkle some Dr Scholls powder in the shoes, or spray with something stronger.

random side note: DD does take her shoes off for naptime, is that odd? I assumed they all did it at daycare!
