Re: ~*~DE/DEmbryo/GC Check-in~*~
Good luck to everyone cycling this month!
I'd love to hear some updates from those of you with your new BFPs - I hope you are all feeling well.
Update: I had my lining check yesterday and all looked good 10.3. DH goes on Friday to give his sample and we'll get a fert report on Saturday and still on for ET on the 24th or hopefully the 26th. I start PIO on Thurs which I'm a little nervous about but I guess everyone else has survived it so can I.
QOTD: We used my RE's egg bank so we didn't have to wade through every donor in the U.S. I narrowed it down to about 5 donors and then started to freak out and create the worlds most complicated spreadsheet to compare every bit of data. Then I figured that was ridiculous. I eliminated one b/c her mother had diabetes but the rest of their medical histories were all good. The donor I picked mainly b/c I thought her baby picture looked like babies in my family and I liked her answers to the very weird questions they had to answer (where would you like to travel, what's your favorite food, do you like sports) We picked in a few days so we could get the process moving faster.
Good luck to everyone! kdussault & jcath, looks like we will all be in the 2ww together!
Update: I had a lining check yesterday and all looks good. On Saturday, I was told that our donor had 18 follicles. Yesterday, the nurse just said that she continues to do well, but I didn't ask for a number. We are in a shared cycle so the eggs will be split. I think all is still on track for an ER on Friday or Saturday.
QOTW: Since we used an in house donor pool, there wasn't a huge selection of donors. I didn't feel like our donor was "the one", but she looked to be a really good fit. Her height, weight, and coloring are all similar to mine. Her health history and her family health history were great. I had really wanted a donor who was a college graduate, but she didn't finish college, I guess that was the one quality that didn't fit, but I figured there wasn't going to be a perfect match. Also, we picked her in Oct and she wasn't able to cycle until Jan. We couldn't cycle until Jan. either so the timing was perfect.
Update: I was just told on Friday that someone else chose our donor, so now we are locked into our shared cycle, the nurse has us tentatively scheduled for late March
I'm sooooo excited!!!
QOTW: What was the process of finding a donor/GC like for you? What kind of qualities did you look for? Did one stand out to you as 'the one'?
The process was definitely difficult. We tried to find as many of my qualities in our egg donor that we could. It was tough and we had to compromise on some things, like eye color, proven success, etc. The one thing that did stand out about our donor and was one of the major reasons why I chose her was because of some of the answers from her application. She was genuinely trying to help couples with IF, she wasn't doing it for the money, of course money is a great perk but it was not her main reason for choosing to donate and that made us feel really good about choosing her

Update: We go down for the ER tomorrow morning with ET hopefully at a 5dt on Monday. I start PIO tonight and will admit... freaking out a bit! that needle is soooo long! We'll get our fert report on Thursday and they'll keep us posted every day
QOTD: Well, it was a process... first I looked online at a few agencies but really wasn't "sold" on anyone. It had crossed my mind to use a known donor but I didn't think that was the best option at first. Then my mom mentioned it to me and so did my best friend... ultimately it was the best decision for us and I feel so blessed to have such an amazing friend and to be such a huge part of this whole process. I was able to attend almost all of the monitoring appointments and will be at the ER with her tomorrow. I couldn't have asked for a better situation.
I am just so excited about all of this, feeling so hopeful and feel like this just has to be "it" - here's to a long 2ww!
I just wanted to pop in and say good luck to all the ladies cycling
DH and I have our consult next week in NYC (weather permitting...we may have to cancel if we have a storm since it's 3 hrs. from here). I'll probably be full of questions after that. Now that I have finally decided to do DE and DH is on board I am so excited to get started. I am trying to gather as much info. as I can...reading all the blogs I can and looking for book & website recs. Feel free to page me if you can be of any help with this type of info. Some of you have already responded to some of my posts so thank you
QOTW: We did DS for our last cycle so I can tell you how we went through that process. I assume the same will apply for DE.....Health history was most important so we weeded a bunch of people out right away. Then, we went by childhood photos. That narrowed it down even more. From that list, DH chose men with similar interests/personality traits which gave us about 5 donors to choose from. I'm expecting there will be less women to choose from because egg donation is just not as easy or common so we may have to adjust some things on our list......
Hi. I haven't been on the boards much lately and I am sorry about that. I've needed some time away.
I have what will be my last ET with my own eggs tomorrow. Of the 5 eggs they transfered, they could only ICSI, and as of yesterday, we are down to 1 embryo. RE is doing assisted hatching this time, so assuming things go well with that, I am supposed to have the ET. I half expect to get a call in the am telling me that my embie didn't make it - in which case I will be ok. (at least, I keep telling myself that) If not, then we are on this carnival ride for another two weeks I guess.
DH and I have been spending a lot of time in recent months talking about DE, and I am pretty sure that if this doesn't work, we are going to jump right in with both feet. The cost is a big issue, but we are trying to work things out as far as where we can pull the funding from. I am also about 90% sure we are going to go with the Shady Grove shared risk program. We live an hour away from one of the clinics, and this is where I had my second opinion. My current clinic does not offer a shared risk program. I know, I am getting ahead of myself here, but I am the type of person who always needs a plan.
Thanks so much for keeping me on the list!
Stuckinthemiddle - Thanks for the update. I'm sorry for what you are going through. I will definitely be thinking of you and hope you get good news in the morning!
Update: We had our second ultrasound yesterday, and everything is looking good. I've been feeling generally pretty crummy. I have to really watch what/when I eat to keep my nausea down, and I don't think I have ever been this tired. I am looking forward to getting to the other side of these symptoms!
QOTW: We used an clinic donor pool. At first I was somewhat disappointed in the selection of donors, but then I started watching the list closely and ended up liking the new ones who were added a lot more. The donor we chose just felt right for us. She just seemed to have everything we were looking for in terms of medical history, personality, appearance, etc. She has lighter hair and a lighter complexion than I do, but I was OK with that. My DH and I both felt like her answers to the questions "sounded" like me, which was a nice feeling.

Good luck to all the ladies cycling now!! Hugs to those that need them!
QOTD: It was overwhelming because our clinic doesn't have in-house donors so we had to go through an agency. Our clinic had a list of a few they worked with in the past that were okay by them but I also looked at a few outside clinics. We wanted someone local to cut down on extra costs (travel, etc.), we wanted someone available quickly, a proven donor with a clean family history. Looks didn't matter since DH and I could produce pretty much any combination on our own but I did need to think she was "cute" (shallow of me maybe?).
I do believe we wound up with the donor we were supposed to have but I'm not sure I ever felt there was "the one". We were waiting for a donor to cycle because we really liked her but she donated at another clinic and they scared her off from donating again. So then we found another who got unexpectedly pregnant. Our next donor failed the genetic screen at our clinic even though she donated twice before (although we picked her, she reminded me of a toxic ex-friend in the looks department so that did bug me a little). In the end the donor we used probably matched me the most personality wise. She never went to college because she got pregnant in high school but seemed to have a decent job and worked hard at things in life.
Update: Our contract is finalized!! I go tomorrow for a repeat trial transfer, blood work and HSG (because it's been almost a year since we cycled last!) I took a "medication inventory" with the IVF coordinator today and then she called in the script for the remaining meds that we will need. I couldn't believe it when the pharmacy called......$ 158.96 (we've NEVER paid less than $2000.00 for meds for a single IVF cycle, and have always gotten follistim donated). I was so shocked that I asked "In US dollars?!"
It just popped out of my mouth before I could even think about it, I was so excited! I will start lupron on the 1st.
QOTD: Initially we started with our RE's donor database. We had two candidates, but passed on both of them. They were everything that we asked for (physical characteristics to mine and DH's, clean medical history, great education), but something just didn't feel right. I found myself looking more and more at how they answered questions. I don't know why, (because I will never meet this person), but I really wanted to find someone that I felt like I would want to hang out with. Someone that I would have a good time with and could see myself getting a cup of coffee with. We looked at a few donor agencies over the next couple of months and literally knew the second we saw her. It was so odd, after pouring over applications for months, we decided on our donor after only a few minutes. We KNOW that she is right person for us.
