Myst

I have a question for you. I know you were being monitored for fibroids. I had one discovered at 20 weeks and at my appointment yesterday it is still there and measuring the same size (It was a decent size at 20 weeks). I wanted to ask but forgot, do they move? I use to feel a lump lower but now it is higher. It isn't always there but I still don't think it is baby. The tech did say that it is big enough that I should be able to feel it on the outside. I'm assuming when little one pushes on it, it sticks out and that is when I feel it. I'm just curious if it would have moved since the lump isn't in the same spot as it was a few weeks ago.

Re: Myst

  • I don't think they move but I had something similar at around 13 weeks.  I had one on the right and then all of a sudden I felt it on the left. I think in my case, I ended up having one on the left and right but the left one wasn't initially picked up.  I think they can move up as your uterus grows, though. Are you experiencing any pain from it?

  • I think you are right that it just moved up when my uterus grew. When it was lower I was in a lot of pain especially when LO pressed his head up against it. Now that it is higher, I don't really feel pain from it. I just thought it would alway be in the same exact spot and never thought about the effect of the uterus growing.

Did your doctor say anything about after delivery in term of your fibroids? Will they go away, will they be monitored, how to treat, etc?

  • I'm glad it's not bothering you anymore.  Mine have caused me a lot of problems and I've been out of work since about 22 weeks b/c of them.  At my nt scan, the mfm saw a small one near my cervix and said that if that one grew any bigger, I'd have to have a c-section.  They haven't seen it since, though, so I am not sure if I will need a c-section. I had a growth u/s at 28 weeks and have one next week also. Aside from that, there's not much else they can do except pain management.  Mine haven't shrunk but I know they can shrink, grow, or stay the same. Mine have all grown, although they think one degenerated.

  • Gee Myst, that is awful. I hope you get some relief soon and hopefully start to shrink. Are you feeling any better with being home and resting?

  • It depends on the day! I thought I was feeling good for a few weeks before Christmas and actually thought that I'd be able to go back to work on Jan.3rd, bu then I had another episode and ended up in the hospital with contractions. I'm on meds now for the contractions and that seems to help somewhat.
