Postpartum Depression

Who prescribed you antidepressants?

Your OB, general doctor, or someone in mental health like psychologist, counselor, or therapist?  I need some antidepressants and do not want to see someone in the mental health field.  I don't want talk-therapy.  I had depression in the past and talk-therapy never helped me but the meds turned my world around.  So who prescribed your antidepressant?

I had an appointment today with my general doctor and talked myself out of it.  I was afraid she would just refer me to some place for mental health instead of giving me a prescription :(

Re: Who prescribed you antidepressants?

  • My regular family doc prescribed mine.

  • My OB did. Barely even talked to me about it, just for a few minutes... Not saying I liked that (at all in fact, and I will be asking for a referral to a therapist) but it was no big deal at all.

  • Thanks ladies.  I have an appointment with my OB today.  I hope it goes well.  I hate that I'm going through this and hate that I have to tell someone.

I cried through telling my OB how I felt.  This is their job to monitor you for how you are doing, don't feel bad.  I've also had my general doctor prescribe me something in the past.

  • I went to my family doctor, but she gave me a prescription for only 30 days. She referred me to a psychiatrist to monitor medication.

  • My OB.  The minute I brought it up and she asked me a question about how I was feeling I started crying.  She was sympathetic and wrote me a prescription.  I don't know about a general practitioner, but my OB told me from the get-go that if I started having any depression symptoms to call her and she would get me a prescription.
