Babies: 9 - 12 Months

What else are you "too old for"?

When I was about 4 -5 months PG, DH & I were in Toys R Us looking at stationary playcenters.

A salesperson came over & started talking to us; and in the process of conversation, found out our ages, &  asked if this was our first baby. After finding out it was, she proceded to tell us that her "first" was already 21..etc. etc. And " Wow. You guys started late didn't you?"

um, what? I was 30, DH 31. Not that old, TYVM, which I said.

She laughed. Idiot.

Re: What else are you "too old for"?

  • oh my. people need to learn when to keep their mouths shut! Especially since 30/31 is not old and is a pretty normal age to have your first.

I can't think of anything for me.. .but the cashier at Target the other day gave me a look when I gave DD her sippy cup and told me "she's too young for that." I laughed and said, no she's 8 months already! And the cashier just raised an eyebrow at me. I would have happily slapped her if that was socially acceptable ;)

  • That was very rude of her. "You guys started late, didn't you?" I get that too from time to time. Ummm...this is not the 1970's when people got married at 17 and had babies at 18. LOL!

I am definitely too old for the "juniors" department at clothing stores. I used to shop in that section constantly because their clothes were more trendy. Now I feel like an old bag going through that area.

  • I'm definitely too old to hang out at the bars I used to.
  • I though it was rude too! My DH didn't, but I said that no woman wants to be told she's old, especially when she is PG, and feeling like a bloated whale.
  • I've gotten that. I've also gotten "Oh, your grandson is so sweet." Hello? I'm 37. But then, I realized that one of those people who said it was in high school with me, and her daughter graduated from kindergarten the same year we graduated from high school. And that daughter, now 19, has three kids.

  • not too old for.... but a cashier at Target once asked me "Are you buying these for someone else?" when I wanted to buy a box of diapers later at night.  I thought she was asking me if I was buying them off of a registry. I said no, they were for my son.  She looked me up and down, and then said
    "Oh, you look soooooooooooooo young"

I didn't know what to say, I just smiled and said thank you?  I know when my hair is pulled back, I look young, but man she was a little rude about it.

  • i am too old for clubbing and the nightlife...we're leaving for vacation in a few weeks and someone at work asked me today what we were going to do at night...i looked at her like she had 3 heads and said..."we'll walk around the resort after dinner and go back to our room between 9:30 and 10 so S could go to sleep at a pretty decent time" - she was like what, no partying...um...no thank you..i did that already and am now onto going on vacation as a family :)
  • What bothers me the most about her comment is what if you guys were trying for 5 years to have a baby?!

Also - what does TYVM stand for?

Exactly, she had no idea what our sitaution was. We hadn't been trying thtat long, or long at all for that matter; but still - I am sure if she said it to us she's said it to others; who knows who she offended.

TYVM means Thank You Very much.

  • TYVM - Thank You Very Much

A friend and I were staying with her college aged sister and roommates for a work convention.  The college girls were watching TV and texting at lightning speed and making evening plans at 10:00 - I never felt so old and it wasn't that long ago that I was in college!

  • At 35, I'm not too old for anything. Life is good and just getting started.
  • I'm definitely too old for clubs. I went out a couple of weeks ago and couldn't believe how loud clubs are. My ears were ringing for days. Lounges, yes. Clubs, notsomuch.

LOL LOL LOL.   This is awesome!

  • At my age, I am too old to go out to a club and dress like I'm 21 and then try to pretend like it doesn't make me look like I'm a cougar trolling for young college age hotties.

  • Nothing!  Kid's menus maybe??  I guess yall don't want to hear me gripe about looking young...but ppl tell me I am young to be a teacher, to have a baby, etc.

  • I'm too old to go into Hollister or Abercrombie. They'd probably think I was shopping for my kid.?

  • Oh - last year I played Guitar Hero for the first (and only) time.  I was excited to tell my students because I thought they would think I was pretty cool or something.  They laughed at me!  They told me I was too old to play Guitar Hero!  Then they laughed harder when I told them I got booed off!
  • That is soo rude!  I got a similar comment when I went to my friends' baby's 1st month celebration.  I was 4 months pg at the time and the conversation pretty much went like this:

Friend's aunt: "How many months are you?"

    Me:  "4 months pregnant"

Friend's mom telling aunt: "You know, she was Jenny's (friend who had the baby) classmate from high school...."

Friend's aunt: "Oh really?  Why did you have your baby so late?"

Friend's mom telling aunt: "Oh she got married later than Jenny (7 months later)"

Hello lady!  I'm pg!!  I'm not LATE!

  • errr. dh and I were 37 and 35, respectively. jeesh
