Baby Names

Does anybody else feel like the good names are taken

I am the youngest in my extended family and my DH has a rather large family and between the 2 it seems like a lot of good names that I love have already been claimed and it is beyond frustrating.  To make things worse I was considering another name, when DH's sister (who is also pregnant) announced she is planning on using it!  I think our baby is going to be nameless!

What are your favorites for both boys and girls?  Currently I am liking Emilia or Mila for a girl, I also like Kinsley, but none of them really stand out.  For boys we have considered Nolan, Rylan, Colin, Kellan, and Callum  please provide more suggestions along these lines.

Hubby's name is Shane so we'd like to use that as a middle name for a boy and Shae for a girls middle name.

Re: Does anybody else feel like the good names are taken

  • I really feel that a lot of Irish names that I liked growing up that were not really known in the US are now these trendy everyday american names all over the place.  It kinda stinks.  I feel like a lot of Irish heritage names I liked are now a part of the whole "aiden" thing going on.  Aiden is a cool Gaelic name and is now everywhere and "trendy" as with "Braden" which has always been a good name in Ireland.  I really wanted an Irish name so now I am going up and down Irish name lists to find something that I like, that is not "trendy" where people are sick of it, and that is not so Irish or Gaelic where the everyday person cant pronounce it...thats the trouble I am having.

All 3 have a slightly different detail, maybe you should just stick with worrying about your own account and life, instead of being rude to me for no reason.

I really like Emilia, but spelled Amelia. Also, Mila is very pretty, and would go great as Mila Shae. Very pretty.

For boys, I like Nolan and Colin from your picks.

My current picks for both: Chelsea, Abigail, Allison, Amy, Annaleigh, Meghan, James, Adam, Keith, Andrew, Zachary

    Oh geez, here we go...

Coco, I don't know whether it was meant in a rude way or not. But I can tell you that on a lot of boards on the Bump, it is understood that you do not need more than one ticker for the same pregnancy. Many people here do get annoyed at having to scroll though the redundant ones. In fact, she could probably tell you that you are the one being rude by having three tickers.

It was a valid question, and not asked rudely.  Trust me, on some of the boards, people don't ask--they just complain, loudly and frequently, about how irritating they find it when people have multiple tickers(multiple in this case meaning even two).

The Bump has been having glitches in its message boards and such, so it's entirely possible that someone would go to change their siggy and/or tickers and end up with an extra they didn't mean to leave on there...in which case asking if you were aware of the situation is not rude in the slightest, but meant to be helpful.

Maybe you should stop and think and take a breather before assuming that people commenting are by default criticizing you and/or taking comments as personal attacks when there is no evidence for such an assumption?

Well said. I didn't see it as an attack on the OP either.

I like Amelia with that spelling. I like Kinsley. It's unique but not annoyingly unique.. as in you can probably guess the spelling.

Kinsley Shae is very very pretty! How about Alexa/Alexis Shae. I had a girl with that name in my preschool class once.

I like the name Nolan for a boy. But watch the Nolan if you use Ryan as a middle name, Nolan Ryan was a baseball player. (Sorry if you knew that already, but I just thought I'd mention it :) ) And if that's intentional, more power to you.

Edited to answer the OP's question.

    Oooh! Catfight!

(I do think three tickers is excessive and ridiculous in a funny sort of way, but moving on...)

I think all of the names you mentioned (particularly Callum) are pretty strong choices. Unless you find something about them "not quite right" why not just work off of that list? Sometimes finding the right name is more a matter of narrowing down a perfectly good list, and less a matter of searching for the "perfect" one.

Actually it's Aidan. Aiden is an American phonetic version and the name of a porn star :)

I don't see how me having 3 itty bitty tickers to scroll by is any worse than the people with multiple photos of husband, kids, dogs, cats, etc and all the little icons and badges.  Her posting had nothing to do with my question other than to be critical and I just didn't see the point of it.

  • There are no other nieces and nephews on my family's side, so I am safe there. But on DH's side there are now 11 nieces and nephews. I like most of their names, but I would never want to use them thank goodness. So far we can use all of the names that are on our list. My sister that is 15 keeps saying we are going to take all the good names (I have 3 siblings) lol. I love Amelia for a girl, what about Kallen for a boy? It's my BIL's name and I really like it.

Kallen is very nice!  Do you happen to know what the meaning is behind it?
