Pregnant after IF

I could use your help please....

So just a few minutes ago I needed to cough and when I coughed I had a VERY STRONG stabbing pain in my right ovary area.... not quite as far as I think my ovary would be though. I screamed it hurt so bad and I couldnt cough again... I needed to cough but it hurt to bad to do again... even when I would try and do a small cough it would happen.

I know it sounds crazy but ouch! Does anyone know what this could be or if I should be worried/call my Dr?

  • Welcome to the scary world of RLP!  Sneezing, getting up too fast, coughing, heck even farting would cause these for me.  They always said that its a 2nd tri thing but I had the most RLP in first trimester, and early on, like 6-7 weeks,

It is scary but its perfecty normal stretching and growing.

  • That sounds like classic RLP to me. Very normal!

  • Yes, for weeks I was convinced that I had an ectopic again and kept making the drs. check me at every ultrasound (I put 3 back but only 1 took, so I was scared that one was hiding).

You'll notice the pain when you get up from bed or if you've been sitting awhile.  For me, it calmed down in 2nd tri but has recently started up again.

I'd only be worried if the pain doesn't calm down pretty quickly.  Mine would usually only last 10-30 seconds.  Just a quick, take your breath away pain.

  • Yup, that's totally RLP.  It sucks but it's not harmful or dangerous.  Mine eased up by 14-16wks but for the longest time I had to hold my ute when I coughed or sneezed, etc.

  • RLP :) I had it very early on in 1st tri and it really hurt when I coughed or sneezed. I wouldn't worry unless it constantly kept hurting.

  • The joys of RLP!!!  Hang in there, after the first tri, it won't be as bad!  I never knew such pain could exist!

  • I have this exact problem, Lindsey. It sucks, because I have allergies that are worse with my pregnancy, so I'm coughing and sneezing all the time. I find that if I need to cough or sneeze, if I can bend over to do it *yes it looks silly*, it doesn't hurt as much. It really sucks when it sneaks up on  you and then you end up doubled over in pain!

  • I am really glad you posted this one.  I've heard so much about RLP, but no one ever described it appropriately for me, and you've hit the nail on the head.  When I cough or sneeze, I get stabbing pains in my abdomen, too.
  • RLP....if you can, when you are gonna sneeze cough, etc.try pulling your legs up.  Really only works when laying down.  My Dr told me to try it and it really does help.
