17P girls, please come in

Tonight is the first shot my DH will be administering.  He asked me today if the entire needle has to go into my skin, and I'm not sure of the answer.  Can someone help?  that looks like a pretty long needle!!!!!

Re: 17P girls, please come in

  • I'm not sure but mine came with instructions or they said we can call the nurse at the office!

I don't trust my DH to do it so a friend (a nurse) is doing mine :-) hehe

I hope it goes well. Mine was much easier than I expected!

  • I wish I knew a nurse who was close by.  :(  Until then, DH is the one.  Wish me luck.  The first one went really well, but I got it from the nurse at the hospital.  EEK.  Not looking forward to tonight.  I may need something to bite on.  :(
  • If you're nervous you could have him review the instructions with the nurse on the phone!
Hugs I think it'll go ok!!
  • The needle doesn't need to go in all the way. At least it didn't when I was getting  17P this summer. Rubbing the injection site afterwards seemed to help me with the soreness too. Good luck! Hope all goes well.

The needle doesn't need to go all of the way in, but DON'T rub the injection site after! It can cause the medication to seep out! My dr told me specifically to not rub the site. My biggest tip is to tell your dh to not get nervous. Dh got a little gun shy and the first one hurt! He didn't put the needle in quick enough. Soon enough, you two will be old pros!

  • DH does my shots and he puts the needle all the way in like the nurse did and I rub the spot after like the nurse said. I've never noticed medicine coming back out so I'm not worried about rubbing the spot (I've heard both opinions). I made the nurse give me my first shot so I knew exactly what we were suppose to do.

  • All done!  He did great!  It took a little longer than I wanted just because he was being careful.  He did stick the needle all the way in...and it was fine.  He said the nurse told him to.  I didn't need to rub the injection site...it was fine.

Whew!  Glad it's over!  :)  Thanks for all your help ladies!

  • You all are brave - I don't know if I'd trust DH coming at me w/ a needle :)  It wasn't an option for us, I was told to make weekly "injection appts" w/ a nurse.  Fortunately our clinic is near work, so I pop in afterwork and get my shot.

    GL!
