3rd Trimester

Clicky poll: Were you dilated at your first internal?

I have my first internal on Monday and I've read a bunch of women who said they were 1cm or a fingertip dilated and I'm interested to see how often that happens. Not asking about effacement but if you want to respond below feel free!

I know it doesn't mean anything, that you could stay 1 cm dilated for 6 weeks, so don't read in to it please. Just curious!

Re: Clicky poll: Were you dilated at your first internal?

  • I checked closed but I've gotta say that my OB has said "Nope, your closed up, maybe 1cm" at my internals with both my kids. I think that just means the opening of the cervix just covers the tip of the finger and not necessarily that a fingertip can fit inside comfortably. Now that this is my 3rd, I don't know what I'll be at with my internals when they start.

  • I was at 1-2 cm & then this week I am 2+ cm; however this is baby #2 :o)

When DD#1 I wasn't dialated to anything until about 39 weeks - GL!

  • I haven't had internals yet with this pregnancy, but I voted 1-2, because I was cm at my first internal with DS, at 38w. Stayed there til I was induced at 40w3d.

  • I was 2cm at my 36 week appointment and went yesterday for my 37 and progressed to a 3 Big Smile (This is my first)
  • just had my first exam and still closed up tight.
  • With DS my first internal was at 38 weeks and I was at a 3!

With DD my first was at 36 weeks and I was at a 2.....and stayed that way until induced at 41 weeks!

Haven't had one yet with this little guy.

  • I never had one and I'm glad. My doc explained there was no medical need, they do them because people want to know...but being a first time mom I didnt want anything else to make me wonder if everything was okay or if I should be suspecting labor. At 39 weeks my water broke, I wasn't sure if that's what it was, but they had me go in and checked me out there - we left with a baby! :)
