recommend your fish oil---one that doesn't make fish burps

I am pregnant with #2 and I 'm looking for a new brand of fish oil to take with my prenatal vits. The one I used with DD#1 always gave me the fish burps. Any suggestions?

Re: recommend your fish oil---one that doesn't make fish burps

  • I honestly don't think there is a way around it. It's fish oil. It's going to be gross when burped up. I stopped taking it last time around.  I'll keep up on it as long as I can this time, but I have no problem stopping when the burps start.

  • I guess you are right! It is fish oil...but I swear with my 1st pregnancy I remembe toward the end hearing from someone about a certain brand that help a lot. Oh well, we'll see. Thanks though.
  • You can get plant-based DHA pretty much anywhere.  Nature's Bounty, and I'm sure several other brands.  It's probably cheaper than the stuff that is marketed towards pregnant women too.

  • I am taking PreNexa (Rx prenatal vitamins) that have a seaweed based DHA.  So far, so good.  No fish burps, thank goodness.

  • I've been taking Norwegian Gold Ultimate Fish Oils - It's in a purple bottle with a yellow sun on it.  They're orange flavored and "burp free" and I've never had any problems with burping them up later.  The only thing I found is that about halfway through the bottle, the orange flavor seemed to have gone away, and now they're super fishy and hard for me to get down.

I take Expecta, which is one of the plant-based DHA ones. Works great for me!

I'm taking this one. Not fishy, obviously.....

  • Try putting the fish oil pills in the refrigerator.  I've heard that cuts down on the fish burps.

  • I take mine before I sleep, helps a ton! If I take them during the day fish burps guaranteed, even on the enteric coated ones that aren't supposed to give you fish burps.

This exactly!  My prenatals make me sick as a dog, so I take both pills right before I hop into bed and don't have a problem!
