How do you communicate with DH during the day?

This was posted on another board that I lurk on, and I found the answers over there interesting.  I'm just curious how the rest of us do it.

I don't usually talk to my DH at all during the day, but if I need him I usually will just email him.  If it's an emergency, I call his cell phone.  He's weird about being interrupted at work, so I don't try to contact him unless it's semi-important.

Re: How do you communicate with DH during the day?

  • Usually email.   He will call me sometimes on his breaks, but only a few times a week.

I like to email him pictures of Jackson sometimes, especially right now when he's out of town on a business trip.

  • We usually send IMs back and forth all day.  Its really just about stupid things, nothing important.  I love that he has a job where he can send me cute little messages throughout the day.  Sometimes, I do call his cell for longer, more important things.

  •  We call, e-mail, text, IM, you name it. After being together 11 years, we still communicate multiple times a day. I know we are the exception but we never go an entire work day without talking.
  • Almost always via text. If it's more urgent or lengthy, he'll call me at work or I'll call his cell. I hate talking on the phone!

  • We text and he usually calls on his lunch break to catch up. DH travels a lot so we Skype when he's out of town.

  • Text is usually the quickest way to get a response from him if I actually need something.  Between going on runs or being at the hospital he can't always answer the phone, but can usually answer a text.  He's gone for 24 hours at a time, so he'll always call once Noah is in bed to see how our day was.
  • Mostly text - but on the phone for longer issues. We are in some contact with each other most days, unless one of us is totally swamped with meetings, but not lengthy conversations.
  • I e-mail, but try to keep it to a minimum.  Usually I send him 1-2 e-mails a day at most.  If it's important then I text or call, but usually it's just an e-mail here or there.
  • We work together, so either face-to-face, like at lunch in the cafeteria, or via a chat window we have to talk to other associates internally.  If it's something big, then I will pick up the phone and call him.   But we live in the dark ages and don't own cell phones.

  • Mostly text. If it's important or complicated I will call his cell. He typically calls me when he's on his way home (his commute is a minimum of 1 1/2 hour each way depending on which location he's at that day) and oftentimes calls me midafternoon as well.

  • We work together so we use an internal IM, sometimes we have lunch together and chat:) I call a few times a day while on Mat leave

  • We text throughout the day. He will call me on his lunch break or on his way to the high school and between sporting events and then on his way home. If it's important I will call him and if he doesn't answer b/c he is with a patient or student then he will call me when he is free. Sometimes it's hard to hear him after school b/c of all the kids who like to "hangout" in the training room. Annoying, but it's his job so  I deal.
  • We email back and forth during the day. I'm not allowed to have my cell phone on during the school day, since the kids aren't either. (or at least they're not supposed to...) Wink

  • Email several times a day, and the phone maybe a couple times a week.

  • We usually communicate at least 3-4 times during the day via text, calls, or emails. When he's in Cincinnati working (90% of the time), he comes home for lunch everyday, so I usually catch up with him during that time. When he's traveling - we use skype.
  • Mostly GChat and text, but I usually call him when I'm on my way home with Charlie so he can start dinner ;)

This. I talk on the phone 8 hours a day for work so mostly just text. I hate speaking if I don't have to.

  • on a normal day we talk/chat 3-4 times - either IM, email, text or phone.  depends on what I'm doing with the kids really
  • Mostly face to face since DH works from home and I SAHM.  However, if I know he's got a super busy day or is on the phone or Skype with clients I text him if I need to tell him or ask him something important.  It feels super lazy to text inside the house but... it's less of a disruption :) and it doesn't happen often.
  • Cell phone. DH and I talk to each other a ton during the day.

  • Usually 3-4 times a day via phone, text, or email. We both have our cells on us at all times for work so it makes it easy. It is usually kid related, what's for dinner, need anything from the store, etc.

  • When I'm home we IM, email, text throughout the day and talk on the phone at lunch.

When I'm traveling that means I'm teaching a class during the day so we text or IM at lunch, text in the evenings and then talk before bed.

  • Text, IM, phone calls.  I talk to him almost every day on the phone at some point during the day. Since he owns his own business we talk a lot so we can figure out dinner plans and his schedule so I know when he will be home for dinner. Even if he didn't we would talk to check & see how each other's day is going.

  • Phone if it's something I need to tell him right away or need feedback, text if it's something not requiring feedback (like when I have to travel and let him know that I've arrived safely), or email if it's something that I can forward and have him review.

I usually communicate with him at least once a day.

  • DH teaches so we just email throughout the day. He's usually at school until around the time I get off work, so I call him on my way home.
  • Usually we just talk to each other on our cells on the way home.  Because I teach, I don't have a ton of time during the day.  If he needs something, he emails me at school (easiest way to reach me).  If it's an emergency, he'd have better luck contacting our school secretary than me realizing my cell phone rang (it's off and in my desk drawer, so I don't hear/see it).
