Fluid in my legs = weight gain??

For the past week and a half or so my legs and feet are a little more swollen at the end of the day. I weighed myself today and I've gained about 5 pounds in two weeks!!! I write down everything I eat, and I know my diet hasn't changed from what it was. I'm still under 30 pounds gained (my goal) but could the fluid I'm retaining be the cause? I have my 36 week appointment today so I'll ask them too... just curious if it's normal. Thanks girls!

Re: Fluid in my legs = weight gain??

  • Absolutely. I gained 6 lbs in one week with DD last time - all water weight.

I just gained 5 lbs in 2 weeks too - and I had to stop wearing one of my rings last week because I started swelling.

  • Yes, my sister gained a crazy amount of weight in the last month due to swelling

  • I think some of my weight gain HAS to be water weight due to swelling in my legs, ankles and feet.  I'm up 28 pounds (was underweight to start with) and to look at me all you really see is a big baby bump.  I've gained nothing in my face, hands, and arms.  I had hoped to stay under 150 and maybe it's possible with only 3.5 weeks to go (hopefully not much longer!) but I might reach that point....

  • I've gained about 10 in the last month and my OB says it is mostly water due to my crazy pre-e swelling

  • I definitely think so. My nurse at the MFM told me to drink more water so that I use the bathroom more to let it out. Also I am keeping my feet up as much as possible and resting.
  • Definitely.  I had my 31 week appointment at night and I had gained 7 lbs since my 29 week.  I had my 33 week appointment in the morning and gained less than 1 lb more.  I know I've been getting bigger steadily, so I'm sure that most of the discrepancy was water weight.

  • I am definitely rocking the cankles/fluid in my legs right now.  I was told to put them up as often as I can and to keep drinking a lot of fluids. It hasn't been helping much, but at least I know I am not the only one with this issue.

ETA: I haven't changed how I have been eating either, but I have noticed an increase of weight gain. My OB didn't seem concerned about my weight at my last appointment though. My next appointment is in a week, so I plan on asking my OB about it then and if she has any other suggestions
