So tomorrow I have to go for my NT scan and they told me to drink 32 oz of water. I have never been able to hold much in my bladder and I don't know what I am going to do. Before I was pg if I had to have and ultrasound they would end up doing it trans vaginally because I would drink and feel like I was going to burst but it wasn't enough. Has anyone else had this problem? What do I do? I am so nervous and upset...I don't want to mess up the scan but don't know if I can do it. HELP!!
Re: I don't think my bladder will hold all that water!
they told me to drink 20 oz the hour prior to the test. i overdid it though and drank probably almost twice the amount just to be sure. in the middle of the scan the tech said my bladder was too full and she told me to empty it completely... and they continued the test abdominally without a problem.
your anatomy is different though, obviously, so if i were you i would just do the best i could... maybe drink a minimum of 20oz and if they need you to drink more during the test, they'll ask you to.
This. Don't stress! You have options.
I had to empty my bladder twice during our NT scan.
Ditto the 20oz in lieu of the 32.
Hav fun seeing your little baby!
I had difficulty in the beginning of my first pregnancy with DS. They performed an US on a small portable machine in the ER and then wheeled me up to the big machine. Before going up, they made me drink so much water and wouldn't let me pee. When I got up to the US the tech told me to pee because he couldn't see much because my bladder was so full. He said that unless the machine is really old, (like the one from the ER) you don't need to fill up so much.
I just had my 1st US with this pregnancy and they said the same thing. I don't think you need to drink the full 32 oz., but its good to drink a good amount of water before hand though.
