Where were you in 1996?

I was thinking about my internet addiction and how I've been on message boards for so long. I realized that I have been on them since joining AOL in 1996. 15 years ago. Surprise

I was in my first apartment, just about to enter graduate school and had all day long to waste my time. Now, a lot of sneaking time in and feeling guilty factors in. But the love is still there...lol.

So, where were you youngins when I started my addiction?

In 1996 I also had recently opened an AOL account and wasn't otherwise aware of stuff happening on the internet. That year I graduated high school and went off to college, where I lived with some computer engineering types in the dorms. They taught me so much and got me hooked on the web. I even created my own website, which was mostly random animated GIFs and Midi music. Awesome.

just started high school and discovered my passion for running (cross country). that is also the year i had my first real boyfriend and got to second base.

i never had AOL. i cant remember when i started using the internet...

Freshman in high school. I don't know if we had gotten AOL yet....it might have been sophomore year. We were one of the first of my friends to get it and I still remember having sleep overs and getting online just to mess with people in chat rooms. I can still hear that horrid sound of trying to connect on AOL...and it was ALWAYS busy at night. And then it was so expensive and you had limited minutes and my parents would be all over us about how much time we spent on there.

I was a junior in high school. Quite a few nights were spent with my two best friends, a bottle of wilderberry schnapps and a two liter of coke, huddled around the family computer and chatting with god knows who on TheGlobe.com. My first dealings with the internet were riddled with falsity. We would pretend to be twenty year old girls who spent too much time together in the bathtub. Ah, the good ol' days!

I discovered AOL in 1993 and almost flunked out my senior year of HS because I wouldn't go to bed until about 4:30 every.single.morning making me late to school. It was so bad I had morning, afternoon AND Saturday detention for 2 months. Then my mother took the cord out of my computer and hid it until I graduated.
