S/O - Age between you and your siblings

I only have one LO but I was curious to know what is the age between you and your siblings.

1.  Are you the oldest, middle, youngest?

2.  How many years apart are you from your immediate siblings?

3.  If your family has many children how many years to you and the furthest siblings in years?

4.  How did you feel about your own personal age difference?

    1.  Are you the oldest, middle, youngest? Oldest.

    2.  How many years apart are you from your immediate siblings? 5 years.

    3.  If your family has many children how many years to you and the furthest siblings in years? Only two of us. But on my husband's side its 16 years.

    4.  How did you feel about your own personal age difference? We didn't have a lot in common in the teen years, but then again, not sure we would have had we been the same age. Its better now that we are older. I personally liked that we were at very different stages growing up. We got a lot of one-on-one attention.

  • 1.  Oldest

    2.  18 months

    3.  n/a

    4.  Thought it was a good age difference. Until I had kids, thought I wanted the same, then I realized how much work it was and decided at least two years was better. Think if we waited to long between kiddos I wouldn't want to "start over" with the newborn phase again.

    2) 4 years

    3) 4 years

    4) I think if my brother and I were a little closer in age, we would have had a closer relationship growing up, and be closer now. Looking back, I don't know if I ever really knew him very well, and certailnly don't now.

  • 1.  Are you the oldest, middle, youngest?  middle with total middle child syndrome.  Smile

    2.  How many years apart are you from your immediate siblings?  oldest is 5 years older, youngest is 2.5 years younger

    4.  How did you feel about your own personal age difference? My brother and I are too far apart and we never got along. And to be honest, we don't really get along now, though I try harder than he does.  My sister and I fought until we both moved out and now we get along fine.  Interesting too, my brother and sister are 7+ years apart and they always got along fine.

  • 1.  Are you the oldest, middle, youngest? Oldest

    2.  How many years apart are you from your immediate siblings? 13 months (actually, I'm exactly 1 year, 1 month, 1 day older)

    3.  If your family has many children how many years to you and the furthest siblings in years? n/a, it was really just me and my brother that grew up together.

    4.  How did you feel about your own personal age difference? Fine...  A lot of people thought we were twins once we got to a certain age.  We grew up super tight, very close...but also fought a LOT.  Like, the only thing my family seems to remember about us growing up was that we fought...and then, the only thing I remember is that we were super close...we aren't so much anymore though.

My H and his sister are 5 years apart, and he has often said he thinks that was too much.  He remembers feeling resentful of a new baby, and not excited.  He loves her, but feels like he has never really connected with her.  I don't want more than 3 years between our two, planned kiddos, ideally.  I think a lot of kids are super helpful and excited and awesome about welcome a new baby at 5+ years old.  But for me with 13 months and him with 5 years, 3 years max is our compromise of what we hope will fit our family well.

    4.  How did you feel about your own personal age difference? My brother and I are no longer close, but we used to play together and get along for the most part as children. I liked the age difference because I did not have to go to intermediate school or high school with him, especially because those were some of his really bad years. His *issues*(nice way to put it) tore our family apart and continue to strain our relationship but we have been doing better since I moved out almost 3 years ago.

    4.  How did you feel about your own personal age difference? Sorry had to reply because my family makes me laugh! As you most likely have guessed we have MANY marriages in our family. Quite honestly I did not grow up with my siblings. My oldest sister  I don't find much of a connection with but my brothers who are 9 and 10 years older are really like dad's to me and treat me VERY well :) (minus the occasional roughing up hahahaa) My little sisters and I get along alright. I really think age is just a number. Just wanted to say that any family situation can be made into something positive hahaa :) Have a great Monday!

1.? Are you the oldest, middle, youngest? Youngest of 3
2.? How many years apart are you from your immediate siblings? 4 years from middle 6 years from oldest
3.? If your family has many children how many years to you and the furthest siblings in years? 6 years
4.? How did you feel about your own personal age difference? I feel we are a little too far apart in age. We have a strange family dynamic though because my siblings are adopted. I don't known if i would be closer to them with different age differences.
  • 1. Are you the oldest, middle, youngest? Oldest

    2. How many years apart are you from your immediate siblings?4 years from my brother, 2 years from my StepSister

    3. If your family has many children how many years to you and the furthest siblings in years?  See #2

    4. How did you feel about your own personal age difference?  Growing up, I wished my brother and I were closer together.  We'd of likely been better able to relate to eachother.  Those pre-teen/teen years were very strained for both of us.  Now, I think we're all where we are supposed to me.  Our sister fits right in between.

  • 1.  Are you the oldest, middle, youngest? One of the middles (4 kids total).

    2.  How many years apart are you from your immediate siblings? 2 years younger than the oldest, 3 years older than the second middle.

    3.  If your family has many children how many years to you and the furthest siblings in years? 7 years from number 1 to number 4.

    4.  How did you feel about your own personal age difference? We were all extremely close as kids and played together (and fought together) all the time.  We all kind of did our own thing in junior and high school, but were still close for the most part.  The oldest was estranged from everyone for several years for complicated reasons.  We are all exceptionally close as adults.  I think it has a lot to do with the fact that we are all girls and we have crazy parents-so we really stuck together.

    4.  How did you feel about your own personal age difference? In our younger years and now as adults, it's worked out well. We were inseparable as little kids and each others best friends. When she went to middle school though, things changed. She realized she was older and wanted nothing to do with me. I missed my best friend and annoyed her to get any kind of attention I could from her. We basically fought (physically and verbally) for most of our teen years. As adults, I would again consider her one of my best friends. We're very different, but we get each other and no one can understand your family's craziness like someone else who has lived it too.

n/a, just the two of us

    4.  How did you feel about your own personal age difference?

Too much.  We could never really be friends, I have always been more of a second mother.  We've always gotten along great, but it would be nice to have a peer.  Our relationship has gotten more strange lately because my mid-20s brother has still yet to hold a job one day in his life and I'm pretty resentful of the burden he is on my parents, especially my mom.  How he could laze around the house all day and expect my retirement age parents to work, take care of the house and take care of him is mind boggling.

    2.  How many years apart are you from your immediate siblings?  Approx. 2 years from both

    3.  If your family has many children how many years to you and the furthest siblings in years?  N/A

    4.  How did you feel about your own personal age difference?  I feel like we experienced our childhoods together. We each had our own friends that were our age, but we still played together or were able to go on trips and do the same things. DH and his sister are 5 years apart and I feel like their memories of childhood don't involve each other as much as it involves their friends. While likely easier on the parents, I think the gap is a bit big for me.

  • I am 3rd out of 4 girls. Ages: 36, 33, 30 and 28.

Growing up, I was close with the youngest, we were always treated as a pair which was kind of annoying at times. We shared a room most of our lives. Now, me and the 33 year old are best friends, but I think it has more to do with life choices/lifestyles than age difference.

I think it was really hard for my younger sister to be only 2 years behind me in school b/c I was the all A's/over achiever and school just wasn't her thing. We went to a small high school so she was always "Laura's sister" and that was tough for her.

Also, how close I am to my sister's now has a LOT to do with how me and John get along with their husband's (we are all married). My DH and 33 yo's DH get along very well and have lots in common, not true with the other 2 sisters.

  • 1. Youngest

    2. 4 years and 23 days (in case you wanted specifics)

    3. Just us 2.

    4. I think it worked perfectly for us.  My sister and I did best not being in junior high and high school together, we would have killed each other because are SO different (though so much the same but only in personality not in lifestyles or friend choices).  We are best of friends now, we talk a couple times a week (she lives in SD) and we see each other about 4-5 times a year and are pretty attached at the hip during that time.  She is pretty awesome.  I wouldn't want her closer in age.

DH is youngest of 3, each boy is 3 years from the next so he is 6 years from his oldest.  His brothers are really awesome, his middle was his Bestman and his oldest is EJ's godfather (and EJ has his middle name as his first name).  They are all very close but very different (oldest is a raving independent, middle is a mama's boy (and I mean that in the very best of terms) and DH is in between the two...he is independent but just enough dependent for it to be sweet (he looks like a cross between them too).

IF DH and I wanted a second (which at this point in our lives is a big fat stinking NO) we would do minimum 3 years difference...we both loved having a 3-4 year gap.

I was able to drive both of us to and from school in high school....we got along for the most part because we liked the same shows/related to each other age wise.

  • 1.  Are you the oldest, middle, youngest? Middle2.  How many years apart are you from your immediate siblings? I'm 2nd oldest so it goes bro is almost 3 years older than me, me, younger sis by 14 months, younger sis by 4 years, youngest bro by 10 years. 3.  If your family has many children how many years to you and the furthest siblings in years? 10 years4.  How did you feel about your own personal age difference? I think it was ok but closest in age sister and I did NOT get along until much later. We didn't like to share friends and she was just too close to everything I did. The younger ones were ok and then my bro and I were also fine.
  • 1.  Middle?

    2.  14 months from my older sister and 2 1/2 years from my younger sister

    3.  4 years apart from my younger brother and 14 years from my youngest brother

    4.  I get along great with all my siblings even when we were growing up so I think it's a good spread.  Except for my youngest brother who was a very big surprise, but he's closer in age to my kids so they great along well.
