Please rec your 2nd/travel seat

We are getting ready to move W into his convert seat.  We will need a 2nd seat for dh's car. Which one do you have?

  • We have a Cosco Scenara in MIL's van for emergencies. It's not super comfy but it was safe and cheap :)

  • The problem with the cheap seats is the weight limit. The Cosco Scenara only goes to 40 FF. We have a cheap evenflo and it only goes to 40 too. I'm not sure what to do. I hate to buy another seat. But I'm not real comfortable putting Ben in a booster yet.

  • Yeah, right now we have the Evenflo Tribute for our 2nd seat. It is mostly used in Nannas car for overnights. I know she won't be taking W anytime soon on her own, but figure we will need one soon down the road.  I was looking at Evenflo's 5pt boosters, maybe we will get one of those for M and use the Tribute for W rearfacing.

  • Yeah we just have a second seat in Steve's car. If we split uo whoever has Ben takes that car. So I need to find something for him. I have a seat belt booster from my cousin. And we have used it over Christmas when we had three kids in the van but I'm not really thrilled with that yet. I should look around for other options. Most of the five point harness to boosters I've looked at are more expensive than another regular car seat.

  • Good point on the weight limit Jill. With a boy, that would be more of a concern. With K, she likely won't weigh more than 40 pounds for a LONG time. She's not even 30 lbs yet. I wouldn't be surprised if G hits 40 pounds before she does.

Since we both work, we have 2 sets of regular seats (Frontier & Marathon) and then the Scenera for MIL's van. We will likely donate the Scenera when I switch to SAHM. So depending on your timeline Caldwell, would you be interested in ours?

  • So I just looked at the evenflo chase and you can only use the harness to forty pounds too. Ugh. What ones are you looking at Caldwell?

Crap, I hadn't looked that far into it.  Next week I have an appt to have M's Frontier and W Blvd installed/checked.  I will ask her what she recommends for a 2nd seat, I want M to have 5pt for longer. He is just now 32ish lbs. I guess if he continues he wont hit 40 for another year or more, so maybe that would work?

  • For a second we bought the next generation Britax Roundabout 50 with a 25% off coupon on albeebaby.com and it came to $149 exactly. Not bad for the second carseat. I figure once the second baby comes around, they'll likely be in convertible carseats around the same time and we'll get more use out of it that way.
  • Ben's too tall for a roundabout.

  • If m is only 32 pounds now you should be fine for a year easily. Ben's 37.

  • We have three carseats -- I have an Evenflo Triumph Advanced and bought one for my mom since she babysits Collin, and we got an Evenflo Titan for DH's car since he doesn't drive him around nearly as much.

  • Are you looking for a seat for M or for W??   If you're looking for one for M I just got the Graco Nautilus (only works ff)  and we love it!
