Purposely hitting their head off things?

I'm hoping this is normal...this weekend DS has decided that he likes to hit his head off stuff repeatidly just for fun...the wall, the baby gate, the chair, etc. And then if he has one of his play bats, hammers, remotes, etc, he will hit it off his head...Did he just discover something new and feels the need to do it over and over? Or is my kid just weird? He has a head cold, so I was thinking maybe it's making an echo sound to him or something?? I have no idea. But I don't like it.

  • DD doesn't do this very often, but once in a while she'll bop her head on her crib rail and laugh. I think it's normal - like you said, something new he's discovered and now wants to do it over and over. Give it a few days and I'll bet something else will replace it. • LO isn't doing this, but the pedi said at our last appointment that if he does start to do it to not be worried. She said it is normal for babies to repeat the head butting action.
  • ds just started smacking his head the other day (he's teething, so i think from what i've read, he's distracting himself from the pain). although, i think he thinks it's a little funny too. everything i read relating to your post says it's normal and common.
