Trouble TTC

Ummm, there's a perfectly logical explanation for this

Is basically what I just said to the plebotomist.

The RE had me do b/w & u/s on Tues, Thurs, Sat, Sun & Mon ( this morning) to check my E2 levels. I had to go to another hospital during lunch to have my thyroid levels tested as my endo. wants to know the level before ER. Since they are affiliated with different hospitals, I could not get them done together. So, that means during lunch I had my 6th b/w done in a week. Even though I alternate arms, that mean 3 times per arm in a week.

Well, when I lifted up my sleeve for my thyroid level test, the lady was like "Well, those look fairly recent" (pointing to my "track marks"). Even after I explained that I had to have b/w done several times in the past week, she still didn't look like she bought it. She even pointed to how the one's from Sat/Sun caused bruising and insinuated that it was caused by a non-professional. She even said "Why on Earth would you need to have b/w done that often, esp. a few days in a row ?!?!"  She really thought I was a druggie !  ::headdesk::

  • Haha did you try to explain or did you just let her think what she wanted? And I guess when you think about all the meds, triggers, injects, estrogens, progesterones, etc... well I think that makes us all "druggies" :) ETA: Good luck with your ER!!!

  • Surprise I'm sorry you had to give so much blood this past week. I can't believe the nurse would treat you like that after you explained to her how many times you had to give blood. There are a million reasons why someone would be giving blood that much, you can't possibly be the first person she's seen like that. I might have smacked her upside her head.

  • WTF! I would have been very upset! I have lots of bruising from my blood work. I would have simply said: Some people get pregnant without trying and others try for YEARS! As you can see I am very emotional about it...

  • Nice! You should have shown her your stomach, if it looks anything like mine she probably would have tried to send you to rehab! I have been grateful that it's winter and I can hide my "track marks" under long sleeves otherwise who knows the gossip that would be flying!

  • You crack head!
  • I would say whip out the honesty and put her in her place. Something to the effect of "My SO and I have been trying to conceive for a long time, and as a result of that I get a TON of bloodwork done. Not everyone is lucky enough to have children without difficulty."

I always found that something like that would shut them up pretty quickly.

She even pointed to how the one's from Sat/Sun caused bruising and insinuated that it was caused by a non-professional.

OMG, do you know how many times a "professional" has left me with bruising on my arm from b/w?  Apparently this nurse needs to learn that like you said there is a perfectly logical explanation.  Geesh.

I didn't even think of this ! I still have the bandage on it from this morning's Lupron shot. Who knows what she would have thought of that ?!?!

  • I'm sorry Ms.Mo...I have been left bruised by professionals too. Besides, it doesn't matter how good they are, if you get more than one blood draw in the same arm, its gonna bruise up some!

I guess if the police haven't stopped by your house, she didn't say anything! But seriously, I am sorry you felt judged...IF is hard enough w/out being judged too.

  • Im so sorry MrsVo. Some people are so insensitive. You are in a place getting bloodwork done, who is she to question why or for what. Obviously she can see what ur blood is being tested for. Sheesh. I dont rotate arms, i probably should because then one arm looks unbelievably gross. I did have the phlebotomist ask me once why i came so frequently, but he asked as if he was genuinely concerned for my well being and wanted to make sure i was ok. I explained about getting pregnant and how they are monitoring my levels and now he asks how things are going and if it gets better or worse.

Next time show her the belly! lol some people....

  • I'm sorry about the bruising girl :(  Honestly, I wouldn't give that woman a second thought... it's actually a pretty hysterical story when you think about it.  I can totally picture getting to the point where I just play it up, like yeah, I had a rough couple of days, well you know what I mean ;)

    People are idiots.
