s/o cleaning poll: Shark

Do you use a Shark or other mopping tool to mop your floors? Do you have one you'd recommend? They look interesting and I think I'd mop more often with one of these rather than mop/bucket! :)

TIA!

Re: s/o cleaning poll: Shark

  • We use a shark on our floors. We love it, and it gets the floors very clean.

A few years ago we used to use a bucket, a mop and stuff like Mop & Glo, but soon discovered that cleaners like that were sealing dirt into our kitchen floor, causing it to look grimy. Last year we spent a couple of days scrubbing the kitchen floor by hand, square by square, with brushes and hot water (ala "Annie") to get up all the grime sealed in by the Mop & Glo stuff. Now we use only the steam mop, and our kitchen floor looks beautiful. HTH.

  • I like it on my wood floors, but I don't like it much in my kitchen (currently have linoleum floors). Even though I vacuum first, I feel like it just pushes a line of lint/grime ahead and I still have to pick them up with a paper towel/sponge.

BFF feels the same way as I do, loves it for her wood floors but not for her tile b/c it doesn't get the grout very clean.

I still bust out my mop for my kitchen if I want it really clean.

  • We have a shark steam mop and I LOVE it. It gets the floors really clean and sanitizes them. I used a Swiffer before I got my Shark and the two don't even compare!

  • We use a Swiffer wet jet. I works great for us. We have vinyl in the bathrooms & kitchen, and hardwoods in the dining room, entry way, and back door way area. We usually vacuum first, then mop with the Swiffer. It was inexpensive ($15-20, I think?) I've been able to get the refills of the cleaner for $1 a Big Lots, and they're antibacterial. I like that you throw the pads away, instead of rinsing out a mop head.

Same here. We had linoleum in our kitchen and bathrooms and I prefered the mop & bucket for them.

Good to know. Most of our downstairs is wood, but have linoleum in kitchen and bathrooms.

  • We have a steam mop for our wood and tile floors and love it!  We definitely have to vacuum/sweep first to remove the dog hair and dirt.  However, as far as cleaning the floors, I love the steam mop!
