So I was so excited to make my own baby food. I bought a babycook, made some things and froze them.... We started feeding her cereal at 5 months which she did well with, when we introduced other things starting at 6 months her lips were sealed. She would eat it if I could get it into her mouth but it was next to impossible to get it in there. We did games, I sang, danced, jumped up and down, gave her toys so that when she went to stick them in her mouth I could shovel food in her mouth.....
So I broke down one day and bought a jar of baby food (organic at least) and..... She LOVED it. She opens her mouth easily.
I feel like a failed as a mother ![]()
Re: I failed at making baby food
We had this issue too. I just gave in and gave her the store bought food - she loved carrots - for a few days, then continued to introduce my food. One huge stupid mistake we were making is that when we were defrosting my food, we weren't warming it up all the way and there were little frozen chunks which obviously affected the texture. After a few weeks, she preferred my food and still does, she refuses store bought after a day or 2 (I use it when we go away).
I would try to stick to making the things kids this age really love for your foods as well - sweet potato, butternut squash, apples, pears, banana - then get more adventurous when its no longer an issue.
Oliver also closed his mouth so tight in the beginning! We just kept trying with different foods...he loves butternut squash and sweet potatoes, so now the only way we get him to eat greens is if they're mixed with squash or potatoes.
I read somewhere that it could take 10+ times before a baby will eat a certain food!
Don't give up on making your own food, especially if you spent the money on the baby cook (we have it too and it's great!).
