I'm currently an elementary school teacher but have decided to stay home next year. We can make it on hubby's income, but it will be tight so I've decided I will tutor in the evenings for extra money. If you were going to hire a tutor for your child what do you think a reasonable amount to pay would be? I was thinking about doing 45 minute sessions at my house. Any input would be greatly appreciated : )

Re: ? about tutoring
A while back I ventured over to the SAHM board (I think that's what it was) and there were a few former teachers who went through tutor.com. They basically tutored students online and got paid for it. I don't know all the details but it might be worth checking out.
By the way your baby is so cute.
I tutored all through my MA (about 4 years ago) and was paid $30-40 an hour depending on the family and how many subjects I was teaching.
I will say that most of the parents that I worked with would not have been comfortable with me having the sessions at my house. I always met students in their house with other people present or in a public place. This protects both you and the student from any suspicion of inappropriate behavior.

Just thought I'd mention that my friend is a teacher who decided to stay home with her daughter. She tutors several children and they all come to her house. She has a room set up for tutoring and the parents are welcome to stay if they want but most don't so not all parents would be opposed to coming to your house. You could always present both scenarios and see what the parents are more comfortable with.
I always went to my tutor's house. My mom usually sat in another room and read. When I got older I drove myself.
