My DD is almost 7 months old; she has never been a fussy baby--although will start fussing a bit when she is done playing on the floor, etc. but never been particularly needy, etc. Frankly, she has not really been one to notice when I leave her in a room alone. I went back to work at 4 months, and have had a nanny at my house and nothing really changed. This Monday, we started a nanny-share at my girlfriends house and this is when the problem began. They have a nice open living room for her to play on the floor and suddenly, starting the second day of her being there, when the nanny, the other mom, or me (whoever happens to be there--even the dog) leaves the room or walks down the hallway she suddently gets VERY upset. Not just fussy, full on crying. I thought maybe it was a separation thing, but she seems a little young for abandonment stuff. I'm thinking it might have something to do with being in a new place and thinking she is being left alone?? I'm not sure. I'm just not sure how to deal with it. This weekend, it will be interesting to see if she does it at our house or not. What should I do? If she does start the scream/cry... is it best to just let her do it. Of course, I want to just go and pick her up--but this doesn't seem like the right thing to do long-term. The nanny also said, that even sometimes when she is still in the room, if she puts her on the floor and isn't holding her she will really fuss. It's almost like she wants all the attention on her. There is only one other baby there.
Anyway, we were going to start a progressive Ferber routine in the next week or so, but now I'm scared that she is going through something else and I shouldn't.
Has anyone else experienced this? Any advice on how to deal with it??
TIA!
Re: NEED ADVICE: 6.5mo starting to scream/cry when leave room
Separation anxiety can start that early. Just keep talking to her when you leave the room "Mommy will be right back!"
There will be some crying, but she'll get it eventually.
DS just started that this week. If he couldn't see me he was scream and come cra+wling after me.
