Yes, I bled for about two days after insertion. The first day, after it was placed, I needed an overnight sized pad I bled so much. The next day it started to taper off and then I wore a pantyliner by the 3rd and 4th days just in case.
Everything is fine. It's normal to bleed after insertion, but it it's really bugging you, maybe just give your doc a call?

Just got mine today. There was a pretty substantial amount at first, now much less. A lot of menstrual-type cramping though. The process itself was pretty uncomfortable...good luck!

When I got mine, I bled for just a few hours afterwards, nothing too significant. And I didn't experience any cramping either. Although I did take two advil before my appointment. The whole process was for me wasn't bad at all.
I had the Mirena after DD1. I bled for a few days after insertion, then spotted for another few days after that. Then from then on out, I only bled (more like spotted) one day a month, about every 28-29 days for the next 3ish months. I ended up having an actual 4-5 day (but still light flow) period the 4th month it was in, but that was right before it was removed before we TTC DD2. No problems from the bleeding whatsoever - it was much lighter and more regular than any of my pre-pg periods so I didn't mind it.
I'm not too worried. I was just wondering if it might be bleeding from the insertion or if it might be my first period since DD was born (I've been having some cramping that was similar to the kind I would occasionally get before a period). Thanks for letting me know how things were with you guys. But I also wanted to make sure that if i was bleeding because of the insertion that I shouldn't have to worry really.
I got mine 12 weeks pp and I was still bleeding from postpartum bleeding believe it or not, so I can't say. But once it's removed you'll bleed briefly from the sharp drop in hormones - it isn't a true period, in case anyone asks.

Do you have Mirena? I was breastfeeding with Mirena IUD and I actually never got a period. I just got my first period since February 2006 last month (I got my IUD removed in November '10). It was great not having a period, but I did have strange side-effects, so keep an eye out for those. The one that bothered me the most was the sharp drop in sex drive, but that's not true for everyone who uses the IUD.
yes I had bleeding, and no it was not ok. i had to have it pulled. it implanted in my endometrium lining and was pushing on my uterus. it was threatening to break through the uterus.

I'm thinking of using a nonhormonal IUD next time around. The midwife said I wouldn't have so many problems such as I did with sexual dysfunction.
