How do you organize your LO's toys? We have a bunch of toys in our family room which is where she plays most of the time. Her bedroom is super small so we can't store any toys there. We've been trying to figure out if one big toy chest is enough or if we should also get several baskets to throw in teddy bears, balls, etc. We'd like to try to hide as many of her toys as possible since we have a few big things that have to remain unhidden like her kitchen, table and chairs.
Share your organization solutions and post pics if you have them. TIA!
Re: Toy Organization
I don't have an answer for you, but will be following this post because our living room is basically now the play room, and I'd like to organize it a little better.
Also, my DD has the same pajamas as Madison in her picture, and almost the exact same chair! Very cute!
Do you have any room for a cubby unit like the one seen here in my blog post? This works great for us.

That is in their playroom, but we also keep one of these in the family room - love it b/c it closes gently and also provides extra seating. Got ours in-store when they went on sale.

This is my big project for my maternity leave, getting a hang on all of DDs toys. Right now we use bins and baskets in our living room, storage ottoman in our bedroom, she has shelving in her bedroom and in her playroom (which we really haven't transitioned too - that will happen this year) we actually have cabinets and drawers like a kitchen which will one day make organizing much easier.
Do you read Ohdeedoh? They have tons of toy storage strategies on there. It's a great resource.
Apartment Therapy had some inexpensive solutions they posted today: https://www.apartmenttherapy.com/ny/shelving-storage/5-budget-basics-cheap-shelving-storage-shoppers-guide-135608
Here are some inexpensive pieces that one blog highlighted: https://community.upromise.com/t5/Mommy-Saves-Best/Kids-Room-Storage-Strategies-that-Work/ba-p/27172
I saw this great idea today on another blog in my reader (can you tell I've transitioned almost all of my work in prep for maternity leave) that talked about creating a toy store in your home. Putting out a limited number of the toys and allowing the children to exchange them at the toy store (a storage closet or locker in the garage or whatever works for you) (or rotating yourself) after a few days. It might keep things fresh and help you see what really gets played with so you can pack it up for the next child or give it away if you are done. I know having all of our toys out makes it difficult for me to see what is really loved and what is not.
We have 2 of these exact same storage ottomans and then a bin organizer - not the same listed above but similar concept.
I love those pjs and the price at Costco is unbeatable! Your daughter is adorable!
OMG this is timely! After we got home from the ILs after Christmas I was worried a) our house would explode from all the new toys or b) I would lose my mind with all the clutter. DH, being the good husband he is, went to Ikea the next night and bought some storage.
We used to get by with one wicker basket tucked in the corner of our living room with toys for J. Now we also have this:
We also have storage in J's room. We just bought this bookcase because the one we had is now too small:
And we now have a small Expedit bookcase and a toy chest (kind of like this one) that hold the rest of his stuff (well, almost - a few things like his Busy Zoo stay out on the floor). Personally I would love to get rid of some of J's toys, but DH pointed out that we won't want to buy them again for LO #2.
In an ideal world none of this would be from Ikea, but it's cheap and eventually we'll be in a bigger place with more storage/closet space so there's no point in buying lots of nice, big pieces now.

We have something similar in her bedroom but it's from IKEA, the EXPEDIT series, which works great. I did see a couple of units on Target's website yesterday after I saw the Sabrina Soto from HGTV commercial about toy storage which prompted me to start organizing! We were going to transition her to a bigger room which is being occupied by my husband's nephew who has overstayed his welcome! I think another cubby unit like this one would be perfect in that room as it is at least three times the size of her current room. It has enough room for a play area which I'm excited about. We could always get the unit and then move it to her big room later. I love the ottoman just don't have the room for it since we already have a matching ottoman in the family room now.
Thanks so much for sharing! You're so good with organizing and placing pictures on the bins. I think I'll steal that idea!
I've never seen this site, ohdeedoh, love it! DD doesn't play with all her toys all the time, she loves her kitchen, soft blocks, and musical toys. I'd like to organize the toys by function, music, puzzles, books, soft toys, little people, etc. I like the cubby and basket idea. Thanks much!
DH is currently making some storage units just like these from Land of Nod.

We're making a few of them to put in the family room, basement, and her room.
