Parenting after 35

Are all boy toddlers like this or am I in for a wild ride?

Sorry to exclude you moms of girls but my friends with girls don't seem to have this problem.  We have a chest of drawers at the foot of our bed.  Just now I walked into the bedroom to find that Simon had taken a break from using one of our dogs as a slide to climb up onto our bed, then onto the chest, and was diving from the chest to the bed repeatedly.  He is now sporting a nice new hematoma on his forehead from hitting the edge of the chest.  No sooner did I turn my back and he was up there AGAIN, binkie in mouth and face still tearstained from the bump on his forehead, and was trying to do it again!  Should I just buy him a helmet and body armor now?

  • Oh my!! Charlie's a bit of a daredevil, too, but not like that!!!  I do think it's a boy thing, tho.

  • Yep, I'm on my 3rd boy and Logan appears to be even more of a daredevil than my older two. Logan likes to jump out of the high chair LOL. Of course he wants me to catch him, but it's still crazy that he likes that.

    Fasten your seat belt. ;)

  • ::sigh:: yeah, seems to be a boy thing.  We were surprised given how laid back and easy going DD is to how inquistive and active DS is.  And yes, he seems to have a deathwish too.  Right now my goal is to keep him alive until adulthood.  Seemed a simple task at first but not so much any longer.

Aaron has a scratch on the bridge of his nose from falling off the sofa today. He was jumping on it when he fell. Thankfully not too far. And he is constantly opening and closing doors. He's obsessed. He even caught his fingers twice this weekend (small cuts and bruises) and it hasn't stopped him.

Wow that's impressive!  Simon can almost get doors open but not quite...I dread the day he learns that new trick!

  • Don't know about all boys, but M is definitely a daredevil. Climbing, jumping, hanging off things. Oof!
  • Yep!  He has no fear!

  • Yup.  Just working to keep him alive.

Matt's new favorite thing is to climb up on the bed on our dog's stairs and then fling himself backwards on the bed.  He has missed a bunch of times and I missed him once (!!)

Not as impressive when you find out that the door handles are levers, not knobs, and don't have locks.  This is at my office.  Though the finger he got caught was in his closet door, which are folding and it got caught in the seam. I didn't realize the door was slightly ajar. The other finger was caught in his dresser door.

But he can ALMOST turn knobs. When we move, every door will have those plastic knob covers.

  • oh yeah, same here....and to boot, N is VERY clumsy and will walk into anything and falls ALL the time.  I'm about to get his eyes checked, seriously!  He has this new habit now of jumping off our very high bed and hoping mommy will catch him....even when i'm not there! Tongue Tied

ETA: oh and can't forget, jumping off the glider too!  see pic in above post.

  • While I don't have a girl to compare my boys too.. let's just say I feel really lucky we have not been to the hospital yet for broken bones.

  • Ok it seems that our job is a little harder now if we have boys...BUT when our kids are 12 and the hormones and drama set in, that's when parents of girls will have their work cut out for them!  Devil
