Thanks so much for the tp&j! It worked! The surgery went well. She was getting scared and freaking out when the anesthesiologist came by so we all decided that her getting some "happy juice" beforehand was a good thing. So they gave her some meds to drink and I now know what my 3YO is like drunk/stoned. Very mellow and happy. We ended up going in about 1 hr after our scheduled time due to an ER but thankfully, the medicine lasted that whole time so it was fine. We just hauled her around in a wagon and watched a little Sesame Street.
The dr told me afterwards her tonsils were huge and kind of slimy mucus-covered and that it appeared there had been an abcess on her left tonsil at some point so good they were taken. She was VERY cranky and in some pain immediately after (par for the course there) but got her to take some slushy and eventually she calmed down once we were in her room, I was holding her and we started reading her new Angelina Ballerina book.
Beyond the occasional complaints and some crying (especially every time they took her blood pressure), she was a rock star. The kid scarfed down a full plate of dino chicken nuggets WITH ketchup and a bit of my pizza (all okayed by the nurse), plus a little milkshake, some soda, water and juice, watched an Angelina movie from the hospital 5 times plus another movie and demanded tours of the hospital in her wagon at least 4 times. She was just great! What was disappointing is that I found out last night that if she had napped during the day, which she didn't want to do, they would've let us go home yesterday. Oh well. We're staying on top of her pain meds (just tylenol) so she can remain comfortable but (knock wood) looks like her recovery will be a good one!

Re: F/u to the tonsillectomy
I'm glad your DD was a rock star! And I'm also glad that her recovery is going smoothly. While I'm sorry she didn't go home yesterday (they should have said something re: the nap), at least she did well, ate well and got the grand tour (4x over) of the hospital.
I hope she continues to do well.

That's awesome!
I don't know if you have given it any thought at all, but this *might* be her earliest memory. It was mine. I remember it because it was traumatic BUT I also remember it because everyone was telling me I could have all the ice cream I wanted after it was over. That ended up being not all that true. I remember being mad because I couldn't have JUST ice cream in the hospital
Anyway, if it does end up being a first memory, it will probably be a good one. It's nice to think she might remember being pulled in her wagon all over the BIG hospital.
