A month and a half ago my october lo got really sick with what I thought was a stomache bug, after a week of her only getting worse her doctor ordered a stool sample. Turns out she had c diff, she was put on flagyl and still did not improve. So after finnishing the flagyl she was put on something else and that worked. Well this monday my 4 year old started getting sick with the same symptoms but he also had fever and sore throat. Took him to the doctor yesterday and he has strep and tested postive for c diff. So he was given alimentum (sp) for strep and flagyl for the c diff. Will the alimentum (sp?) make the c diff worse?
Re: Its been awhile.... but I could use some advice on C diff.
I thought Alimentum was a baby formula. Do you mean amoxicillin? Which is an antibiotic for strep. Antibiotics can make diarrhea worse, they usually say to give extra yogurt or Culturelle to help.

Also adding I was like that with strep all the time and had my tonsils out when I was 10. I still got strep a few times after that which they said can happen because they can't remove ALL of the tonsil tissue. I think I got it twice after surgery but then I never got it again. GL and hope your LOs are better soon.

Is it augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate)??
Antibiotics can kill off the healthy microbes in your gut, leaving you vulnerable to pathogens (like C. difficile). Nonetheless, I would follow the doc's instructions.
If you have recurring problems with C. diff, I would ask the doc about a fecal transplant. Sounds totally gross, but its scientifically legit and it works much better than antibiotics in most cases.
I'm sorry your dealing with it. I hear it can be a PITA.
I'm not sure a probiotic would make much difference, but its certainly not going to hurt.
