All day at work we have been discussing the mass die off of blackbirds (2 separate events) and of fish in Louisiana and Arkansas. story here
Some people here believe it is a sign of the Apocolypse, and another co-worker thinks that it is the government testing a weapon to somehow target a specific species (or for better explanation - a certain race of people or religion) and kill them off.
Do you think the worl will end in 2012 and we are living in "the end days"? Do you believe the explanation given for the mass die off of birds and fish?

1) Uh, no.
2) I don't believe that a very definitive answer has yet been given for the birds .....but I have no reason to believe that the government is trying to kill any of us.

I do believe there is some legitimacy to some conspiracy theories, but I think people take them and run with them. I don't buy into the 2012 hype either. But I will say, it has been entertaining to hear my co-workers discuss it - between the Agnostic, the Athiest, the Bible Thumper and the Peace Maker it's been an interesting conversation piece!

Lol. I ask myself that every day! One of my co-workers is a total trekie (sp?) and believes in aliens and every conspiracy theory in the book. She is quite entertaining to say the least. She's the one who came up with the theory that the government is trying to kill off certain kinds of people. I have not even entered into the conversation, I'm just sitting back and listening to all the crazy things everyone believes.

I'm a high school teacher and my students were all hysterical about the 2012 movie and I had to explain this bit of history to them.

Not even Jesus himself knows when the world will end...No, I do not believe the world will end in 2012. I think it's silly to even think about. Remember when 2000 was the "end of the world"...well we're still here

Yes, because a much more advanced race than us is going to bother to travel light years just to pick up some hillbillies and anal probe them for no reason? Or, in your case, kill some birds and fish?
Also, the people that think that aliens helped build the pyramids and other ancient monuments. Sure, because they had nothing better to do than to teach people how to stack rocks together? Riiiiiiiight.
Even better, one of my middle schoolers said, "It's in the BIBLE!!!". Really? Great. I didn't even see the movie because the whole concept seemed stupid to me. If you do believe in the Bible it says (paraphrasing) that no one will know when the Rapture is coming. Everyone just wants to be a part of something.
