1st Trimester

Intro/Question--When did you tell people?

Hey Ladies:

I'm new to the board--got our BFP New Year's Day and we're due 9/1/2011!  :)

Question--when did you tell friends and/or family you were expecting?  We haven't told anyone yet and I think we're planning to tell everyone after the first doctor's appoinment, so I will be around 8 weeks.

Re: Intro/Question--When did you tell people?

  • We're yet to tell anyone. Our plans are to tell our parents the night before our appointment, which is January 25th, and our siblings the weekend after at my DH's birthday party! It's frustrating to wait, but DH and I find it kind-of fun to have this big secret!

  • We got BFP on 12/4 and are due 8/10. We had planned to wait until 12/25 for a Christmas morning surprise, but I got too excited and told my parents after about a week. We also told his then... I guess that would be about 5.5 wks.  We saw the heartbeat last week, and have told a few very close friends... mainly people we were visiting from out of town and knew we would not have a chance to tell them again face to face.  The go-public date for us is around Feb 10. I return from Israel that day, and will be around 14 weeks, so we figure it's pretty safe then.  I think 12 weeks is pretty standard.

  • This is our first pregnancy and we found out Christmas day at 10dpo.  We just told our immediate families initially just incase something happened.  Since missing my period and the line on the hpt getting darker and darker, i feel a lot more comfortable telling ppl.  We've only told the ppl closest to us thus far, next week is our first appt and i'm sure we'll tell everyone else after that.

  • We told at around the 4 week mark.

We were excited, our friends and family were excited.. and on the off chance that anything would happen - they are our support & we'd want them to know what was happening.

  • Congratulations to you!

We opted to air our exciting news at 8 weeks. While the chance of miscarriage is still there (it always will be), it lessens quite a bit once you hit 8 weeks (per books and OB).

If something should happen we will have that much more support.

  • The first time we told parents at 6 weeks and swore them to secrecy. Then we told family at 14 weeks, just because we were all together at Easter.

This time we told parents at 10 weeks and family at almost 12. It was Christmas and we were all together. I also wanted a clear picture of what was going on at the dr. before we told.

Do what makes you comfortable. Some like to tell right away. I've just never been one to do so.

  • I'm 8 weeks today and we haven't told anyone yet. I have my first doctor's appointment at just past 10 weeks, and after that we'll decide if we're going to go ahead and share or stick with our plan of waiting until the first trimester is over. It's not too hard to keep it to ourselves at this point, because our closest family is 3 1/2 hours away. I think we'll probably do a Valentine's Day themed reveal since it will coincide pretty closely with the end of the first trimester :)

  • amd new as well and got my positive confirmation on New Years Eve. I too am interested in stories of how to tell people. My brother and sister in law are about to give birth to their first child at the end of the month, should I wait until the baby is born to tell everyone my news?

  • Congrats! We told everyone right away, the night we found out. We did this both pregnancies. I get too excited to hold things in and there's no way I can keep something so big a secret. I know it's not for everyone but it works for us.
  • We found out at 4 weeks and didn't tell anyone until the repeat bloodwork at 6 weeks.  Then we told my sister and parents around 7 weeks.  Today a good friend of work asked and I can't lie to save my life, so now she knows, but it felt really good to talk about it.  I am 8 weeks tomorrow and have my first US!!!  Once we hear the heartbeat and see our LO, I will be more comfortable telling the rest of the immediate family and close friends.
