irregular cycles and EDD

Anyone else have irregular long menstrual cycles and/or and already been to your first MD appointment?

Here is my questions.. I have long cycles sometimes up to 44-60 days so my last period was 11/20/2010 however i didn't ovulate until 12/17/2010 .. so according to my LMP my EDD is 8/27/10 however according to my ovulation date my EDD is 9/9/2010 .. that is two weeks different in baby development!  

When i called to make my appt today they didn't seem to care that i was irregular as i know they always go by LMP but said i can come at 8 weeks and scheduled me for 1/20...(only 6 weeks according to my calculations)

My friend seems to think they won't change my due date based on my irregular cycle and just go the earlier due date, realizing babies are never born on the due date and i will just be late.. and thinks the won't back track after an ultrasound and make me less farther along..... 

 just curious if  anyone has already been to thier appointment and had this discussion yet...

    EDD's are based on a 40 week schedule and your LMP.  

    If your doc does an u/s and sees that your LO is measuring ahead, your EDD may be adjusted.

    Talk to your doctor and tell them you know when you ovulated. They might do a dating u/s and base your due date off of that IF it is more than a week different than your EDD based on your LMP.. at least that is what I have heard. I ovulate early and the baby was measuring two days ahead (right on schedule per my calcs) at 6 weeks and almost a week ahead at the 12 week u/s.. but they have not changed my date.

    My LMP was 8/14! I ovulated on CD 115!! According to my calculations I am 6w1d. I go to the OB on Wednesday though so we will see if maybe she does an ultra sound to measure or what...

    I'm in the same boat. My last LMP was 10/02 so when we got the + preg test on 12/8 we thought we were already around 10 weeks or whatever. Once we saw our OB I told her about my crazy periods, usually my cycle lasted 50-60 days, and when she did the u/s she put us between 5 and 6 weeks. You'll be able to tell more once you see your OB and they will adjust your due date as needed. If you know for sure when you ovulated, then go by that calculation rather than your LMP.

    I was wondering this exactly!  This cycle was almost 60 days long, and if I do 'normal" calculations I am about 8 weeks, but I didn't ovulate until Dec 16th (period started Nov 5th) which only puts me at about 3 weeks, very confusing!!

    Just take in your chart to show your Dr.  If he won't listen to you I would find a new Dr.  My Dr was very happy I knew when I ovulated and when I had my u/s my calculations were right on.

    *lurker pops head in* Thank you all for posting this! I have had (former) doctors and other women look at me like I belong in an insane asylum when I say I sometimes only have between 4 and 7 periods a year. Normal or not normal, it's good to know that there are plenty of other women out there like me. Smile

    I have no idea when I ovulated, my periods were always irregular, anywhere from 26-50 days.  When I called for my first appointment, naturally they asked LMP.  I gave them the date, they set my appointment for when I would presumably be 10 weeks.  I ended up going to the emergency room at one point for spotting and cramping and had an ultrasound before my first appointment.  Everything was fine and the ultrasound put the baby at 6 weeks, but by LMP I should have been 8 weeks.  When I went for my first appointment they said they will use the ultrasound date. 

    As a pp said if the ultrasound puts you at least a week off from your EDD they will change it.  If it's less than a week, I think they leave it according to LMP.

    This confirms my opinion that, since a lot of babys are born "late", it isn't them, their EDD is just calculated wrong.  I have regular cycles, but i was still getting negative preg tests until later than most women on here, so I wonder if I didn't ovulate a week later then i thought, which could explain why it took longer for a positive test
