Birthday party..help.

Ok, so clearly at a 2 year old's birthday party, each guest will be accompanied by a parent. So I assume that means I should have drinks for the adults, and a cake large enough for the adults to have some, right? I mean, I know I don't HAVE to, but I want to do what's customary and polite. However, it's either a 1/2 sheet cake which will serve just the kids, plus some of the adults, or a whole sheet cake which will probably result in leftovers but will definitely be enough for everyone. Clearly the whole sheet cake costs more than the 1/2, but I don't want to come across as cheap with not having enough cake.

Also, I had only planned on doing those little bottled waters, and juice boxes. Maybe I should put some canned sodas in for the parents to be safe?

Most of the kids coming are Holly's daycare buddies, so I don't know their parents well. I'm trying to avoid a major toddler party faux pas and being the subject of class gossip..LOL. Big Smile So...WWYD? whole sheet cake, and risk having leftovers, to ensure there is enough for everyone? Plenty of sodas for the parents?

Oh, and it's at My Gym, if that matters. But yeah, I like to overthink things. hehe.

Re: Birthday party..help.

  • We went to a 2yr old birthday party recently at Little Gym. The mother had cake and ice cream for the kids. Cake was offered to the adults but most passed since they were trying to make sure the cake ended up in their childs mouth and not on someone else! :) She also had bottled water and juice, no soda.

I don't think soda is a necessity, unless you really want to have it. The party is for the kids, not the adults and since you are having it at a location that I assume is a block of time, people don't tend to linger & consume too much stuff, ya know?

  • I would definitely make sure to have enough drinks for the kids and adults. I am not sure what I would do on the cake. I would assume some of the adults would turn the cake down in which case a 1/2 would work. However if on the off chance everyone wanted cake and you didn't have enough that could be bad. But I know I wouldn't want to take half a cake home to my house so I would have a hard time ordering a whole sheet cake. I guess I am not much help....lol. GL!
  • I attended a LOT of 2nd birthday parties in '09 LOL and yes, there was usually cake for the adults, and soda too.  I'd rather have too much cake than not enough.  Not everyone will eat cake, but I've seen plenty of parents (myself included LOL) enjoy cake at kids' parties.  If there was piza, etc. served there was enough for the parents as well.

GL!  I think a My Gym party sounds super fun!  Liam used to love his classes there!

  • I think I would go with half a sheet cake and just cut small pieces. While kids will eat the cake a lot of it goes to waste b/c they never finish the pieces.  I think soda for the parents is a good idea.
  • Adults are your guests too. Provide them with cake and drinks.

  • I would definitely have enough cake and drinks for adults. I'd rather have leftovers then not enough.  And I'd have drinks for the adults too.

  • Make sure you've got some Caffeine Free Coke for me, I prefer chocolate cake, and umm, Katie doesn't need a slice, so I'll eat hers too. ;-) Just kidding. I agree with Mikey, make sure you have enough for the 'rents. Better to have too much and send it to work with your husband than to not have enough.

Yes.  I would definitely provide enough of everything for the adults.  I, also always have leftovers but that's just b/c I am so paranoid I'll run out of food.  That's my worst nightmare.  Better to have too much than not enough.

  • ditto to those who said get the full sheet cake.  you definitely want to make sure you have enough cake!!!  and as for soda or not, i think you'd be okay if you just got big bottles of water instead for the adults or soda... either one.

also, if you're worried about leftover cake, you could always see if anyone wanted to take extra home.  but if i were coming to your party, you wouldn't have to worry about any cake leftovers lol.  we love cake around here!!
