Anyone NOT doing a theme for the 1st bday party?

I probably won't do a theme at DD's 1st bday.  I can't really think of one, and instead of forcing the subject, I'm thinking of just not doing one.  Just putting her in a pretty dress, having good food, and giving her a cake to smash.   I'm not alone, right?

  • nope, not alone.

We'll be doing a family birthday party (with maybe our closest friends)

I'll make her a smash cake.

We'll have a good time, but no theme. I just don't really see the point , she's not going to care and as long as the adults have a good time I can't see spending a whole bunch of extra money on cutesy plates/cups etc

  • No you are not alone.  We aren't having a theme and I know plenty of other moms who didn't have a theme for their child's 1st birthday.  We are just having a simple get together with family and a small cake.  They are only 1 and won't remember anything anyways.
  • Nope. We aren't either. I figure that we have a built in theme... you know - baby's first birthday ;)

  • Unless "babies first birthday" is a theme we don't have one either... I didn't do a theme with any of their first birthdays other than the plates that said "1" on them.  I think good food and friends are the important parts of a party.

  • Not us.

This year, for DD1's third birthday, was the first time we had a themed birthday party, and it was only because she asked for a Wonder Pets cake so I built her kids' party around that. I'll probably defer to DD1 on what kind of cake to make for DD2's birthday, but the cake and maybe some first birthday plates are about as far as I'll go with any theme.

  • Frankly, I'm hoping she won't even specify desired cartoonish bday themes as she gets older.
  • Nope, DD is sharing her b-day party with my 7 (stb 8) year old stepson, so there will be no "theme".  They will just have a "birthday party" themed party.

  • nope, we're not having a theme. we actually won't even have a big party either - just something small with my mom and in-laws and maybe dh's sister, probably under 10 people.
  • no theme here but we do have a bit of a color pallet so everything ties together
