Pregnant after IF

Can I take Tylenol PM or Excedrin PM?

I am having a hard time sleeping and wondering if I can take anything to help?  Pre-PG I took ambien, which I think I can still take occassionally, but I have to double check with my doctor.  Does anyone know if I can take Tylenol PM or Excedrin PM?

Thanks

  • Hi sweetie! I'm so uber-paranoid that I won't take anything, so I'm not any help. Can you call your OB and check to be sure? I hope you can get some sleep soon! Sleepless nights are no fun at all :(

  • I don't think so..

You can take benedryl, which will make you very sleepy.

When I was in the hospital they offered me ambien or benedryl, so I know those are safe but I think ambien is only ok occasionally, like you said.

  • I have taken tylenol PM. I was told ANY tylenol product was ok.

Me too which is why I have just been dealing.  It hasn't been a huge deal because I have been on vacation for almost 3 weeks so I could sleep in late when I had sleepless nights, but today I am back to my 530am schedule and couldn't fall asleep until 100am.  Needless to say I am pooped.

I have had chronic insomnia since college, but I worry about not getting enough sleep for the little one.  I am going to leave a message for the doc and hope they call me back today.

  • Unisom is on the safe list of products my OB gave me. She said it is fine to use that occasionally once you hit 13 weeks. I haven't used it personally, but maybe that would work for you? I hope you get some sleep soon!

     Darn :(

I'm sure your doctor will find something you can take. I agree that although we are all nervous to take anything, you do need to weigh the benefits of getting enough sleep for your LO.

When I was in the hospital I was surprised to learn that many of the women on the antepartum floor take ambien every night.

If you are allergic to benadryl, then you can't take Tylenol PM.  It is basically Tylenol with Benadryl.

I just looked over my list of approved meds during pregnancy from my RE and Tylenol and Benadryl are on it.

  • I asked my OB this same exact question.  Tylenol PM is ok.  My OB is SUPER conservative, so if he said is was ok, then I am comfortable wtih it.

  • Yes you can take Tylenol PM and Benadryl.

I take Benadryl when I've had a few rough days in a row just to get a good night's sleep. In fact. I woke up this morning at 7 a.m. and took some just to be able to get some rest and just woke up. It's a lifesaver.

Acetaminophen is okay, it's ibuprofen that is unsafe. HTH!
