Due to wanting to hold the bottle herself, gazing around etc, my husband told me it takes about 40 minutes for her to eat 5oz (maybe less, people tend to exaggerate when complaining myself included). Is this a sign we need to move up a size in nipples? I breastfeed when at home and she never ever takes that long but then, we feed a little more frequently so I can keep my supply up at work.
Re: How long does your 8 month old take to drink a bottle?
Yeah, probably 10-15 minutes here too and we use a Born Free level 2. But we have to feed him in his room away from everything else so that he focuses. Although now he pretty much only gets a bottle right before he goes to sleep (before both naps and bedtime) so it's easier to do it in his room anyway. But if we are at someone else's house, it's really hard to get him to take a bottle.
He gets two a day (rest of the time I nurse) and the morning one (6oz) he will get down in 10 min... the evening one he plays with it and sometimes will drink at it for 20-30 min on and off... but he has also just ate a large solid meal.
We use level 3 Dr. Brown nipples.... I noticed it was taking him a while with Level 2 so we went up and he seems much happier and spits up less.
I want to warn you against going up a size, though I will qualify that what happened to me could have been coincidental and would have happened anyway at that point in time. But right around the time when we switched from Level 1 to 2, DS stopped BFing at all times except right when he wakes up in the morning. He wouldn't nurse at any other time during the day.
my 6 month old drinks his on his own and it takes him like 10-15 minutes, depending on who's (or what's) around him. he drinks 5oz at a time.
