I'm really curious how most clothing fits over cloth diapers. I know it's been discussed on here before but I can't find any threads on it right now. Do you pretty much always buy a size up? Like, when she's a newborn I'll have to put her in the 3 months sizes?
Maybe? Sometimes? What was/is your experience?
My son was born at 7lb 7oz and he wore his clothes about a month behind. (ex: he wore 0-3 months until he was 4 months. 3-6 months until he was about 7 months. etc.) Then he just grew lengthwise and now wears 4T or 5T for the length and I have to cinch the waist up a long ways to keep them up on his skinny butt!
I'm just having a pregnancy-induced freak out. It's dumb.
Re: can we talk clothing fitting over cloth diapers?
regular sizes. C was just like your DS were he was wearing 0-3 until 4 months, etc.
L is a little bigger than C was so we are sizing up the "right" times.
The only thing I've noticed is that footed pj's tend to get a little more snug quicker (as in become a little short). I'm assuming it's from the diapers making it tighter. There are one pair of pants that depending on the diaper, they are snug.
Oh, and I used fitteds with covers exclusively for...6-8 weeks I believe. And then we went to prefolds with covers. Now we use a mixture of prefolds, flats, fitteds, and pockets.

i'm with bliss. we outgrow a little earlier but not always a size ahead. i notice with the butt in pants - jeans often are a size up and need to be roomy. when you get to doing night diapers, jammies can get tight faster i think. and our next to grow out of is one pieces/rompers. not sure if it's always the case or just her body type tho.
but she was 7lbs 13oz and was in nb clothes until at least a month and a half before we started the 0-3 size and used fitteds (kl0's and nb mutts/b4's) till she fit into onesize dipes.

so I guess to really answer your question, for us we usually have to go up a size vs his age, but since he wears a size up in shirts too, I can't really say that he is up a size bc of the diapers.
Big E (6) & Little E (2.5)
We have bigger sized clothing because my kid is a giant - it has very little to do with his cloth diapers. From the time he was about 6 months, we had to buy bigger clothes... whereas since then, his diapers are less bulky (in proportion to his body). We don't use fitteds anymore - just bg aios, and they are pretty trim.
Anyway - no need to freak out about that, mama! Just take it as it comes!
for the most part yet, but usually just in pants.
Some brands like Carters fit True to size for her (or 1 up ) and brands like Circo are bigger so they fit normally.
Gerber was nearly 2 sizes up
Okie dokie - a little bigger so they fit normally
I think the only issue is that some girls pants are cut very slim with no stretch, making it hard to fit over the diaper.
For the first couple months C wore mainly knit or fleece pants and we didn't have any issues. Now she's 13 months and is wearing 6-12 and 12-18 size pants. She can still wear some 3-6 onesies, but overall she's petite/skinny but we're definitely not having to go a size up (I just bought the 12-18 pants in the past couple weeks).
Thank you SO MUCH for the input! I could kiss you. I was freaking out that nothing would fit her and I'd have to put her in boy clothes for a while. Dumb. I know. "Boy" clothes wouldn't hurt anything, but I was not a rational human yesterday. :-)
Thanks!
