2nd Trimester

sugar-alcohol-caffeine free drink ideas?

I'm in my 2nd trimester and I'm a type 2 diabetic...anyone got any ideas of good party drinks to order during special occasions? I'm tired of club soda and water, fruit juice has way too much sugar, and most restaurants don't have many low sugar alternatives. What can I ask for that's sugar free, caffeine free AND alcohol free???

  • I usually do gingerale, cranberry & lime. Could you do that with diet ginger & cranberry to cut the sugar out?

Seriously, sugar free, caffeine free and alcohol free.  There really aren't many opntions.  I like club soda and pomegranate juice.  It has a really good flavor without a lot of sugar b/c its just an oz or 2 of juice.  Other than that I drink decaf iced tea with a little bit of sugar and some lemon when I'm sick of water.

  • Well I doubt they will have this at a restaurant...but I will share it anyway because it is delcious!  I really like drinking "sparkling" water with a couple drips of flavored stevia. They have root beer, cream soda, orangesicle (tastes just like orange soda), i think they even have a coke flavored on. It comes in liquid form and last for quite a wihle... If your thinking that it can't possibly be that good, I gave it to my diabetic grandpa in a coffee cup with a lid and told him it was root beer and he never new the difference :P I have never been able to tell the difference either.
  • Iced caffeine free herb teas, peppermint is nice because it's already a little sweet.  Granted I don't add sugar to my teas or coffee though,

  • EmbarrassedYou could take some crystal light and mix it in at the restaurant. Or take your own (decaf or safe herbal) tea bags for hot tea.  If they look at you weird explain you have 'restrictions'.  I don't mind doing things like that, I used to take my own salad dressing when I was on a diet and since I am sensitive to MSG and some other additives.

  • There's also a lot of lower sugar juices now you can check the sugar content of.

  • At Starbucks I love their Passion Iced Tea (no sugar, you have to request this). Very yummy  :)
