Ok, so we had Chloe all picked out. I mentioned it to a girlfriend of mine (at the time we were tossing around ideas to all sorts of people... now we are hush-hush). Her cousin was due in like a month and she still didn't have a name yet. Guess what her baby's name is? Khloe. Probably after the suggestion of this friend of mine.
Now this fam. lives in a different state than us, but still is a part of our community (whole family lives here). I'm pretty annoyed because I feel sure she stole our name... but trying not to be bitter about it because she lives in a different state and our baby is due like 5 months after her "Khloe" was born. Geez. We are keeping it a total secret now of what we are even thinking about... What to do?

Oh honey, they did not steal your baby name. They are spelling it with a "K" not a "C". If you like the name then still use it.

Nobody owns a name, therefore no one can steal "your" name.
If you still love Chloe, use it for your daughter. If you don't want to share it, find something else. But, please, stop whining. You're pregnant--it's time to grow up now.
You do realize that Chloe is a very popular name, right? It's one of the top 20 most used names in the U.S. for the last five years. In 2009 it was ranked #9.
I think you should spend less time worried about an out-of-state cousin of a friend and more time figuring out a way to get over yourself.
Here are the Baby Name Board cardinal rules of baby naming:
1. Nobody owns a name; therefore, nobody can steal 'your' name.
2. She who has a baby first, gets to name a baby first.
3. It's your baby, therefore you get to pick the name you like.
This. Who cares. It's your baby give it the name you want. Jeez.
Oh that's horrible! Btw... I absolutely love the name Chloe. I used it for my dog a few years ago, otherwise we may have considered it for our daughter.
That's always a risk when you tell people names you are thinking of. We didn't run any names by anyone, we simply told family and close friends the name we finally chose.

Okay, first off I will say, I disagree with the other ladies who say people cannot "steal" a name. OMG people, lets get real, nobody said she OWNED it. If I told someone a name that I was thinking for my child, and they turned around and used it (whether it was them, their friend, or their cousin) I would be like WTF you got that from me. So, that being said I see where you are coming from. However, they live in a different state and are very distant, so yes I think if you really want to use Chloe, Khloe, or Kloe then go ahead.
Secondly, I would just like to point out the irony that everyone gets, well for loss of a better word... "Bitchy" about posts like this, but this post has the MOST views AND replies than any other post around it!!!!! Seriously, if you hate it soooooo much, then I suggest, um I dunno...Not Reading It!!
She didn't "steal" your name. Yes, she may have gotten the idea from you (or from the trashy Kardashians, based on the awful Khloe spelling), but so what? This is the cousin of a friend. It's not like your sister took it.
Use Chloe (the lovely spelling) and move on. No one can "steal" a name. That's just ridiculous. If that were true, there would only be one of every name in the world. Come to think of it, that might not be a bad idea, considering all of the little Kayden's running around right now.

I agree! It can be very frustrating when you pick a name, mention it to someone who you know and then they decide to use it. They may live in different states, but if they have the same friends, then it's still going to be obvious.
For some reason, on computer forums, people don't realize that they're words seem more harsh when read then when said, so yes, people, stop being so damn bitchy. I doubt she thinks she "owns" a name. It just hurt her feelings when someone used it after she mentioned it.
Everytime I see that, I think Star Trek. I'm so not with reality TV.

I don't agree with the majority on here, I would be hurt if someone used a name after I had said I wanted to use it for my baby. It's hard when you have a name all picked out, but can't get pregnant right away. Then when you do, it would be hurtful if someone used the name you had been wanting to use for so long.
All of this being said, if I were you I would NOT be upset about a friend's cousin in another state using the same name, but not even spelling it correctly. First of all, you don't know for sure if she got the idea from you since it is a popular name. But even if she did, you can rest assured knowing you had the idea first and you are spelling the name correctly. That's a big plus!
