Hi,
I had a D&C two weeks ago. When I went in for my follow up, the Dr. said that the pathology report showed that it possibly was a molar pregnancy and ordered another blood draw and said I'll probably be going in again next week. I know it's rare, but the Dr. mentioned this leading to cancer and reading online has made me a little nervous. If this was your experience, please tell me more.

I'm so sorry you're going through this. I just found out after my D&C that I had a partial molar pregnancy (I was first diagnosed with a blighted ovum). Not sure how many more diagnoses I can get! In any case, you'll likely need to go in for weekly blood draws until your HCG reaches 0 and then it becomes monthly. Cancer is a very rare outcome but yes, it is a possibility - a rare one. Do you know if yours was partial or complete?
I found this message board on another site that has been a wealth of information and support since it's dedicated to partial and complete molar pregnancies: https://community.babycenter.com/groups/a113685/molar_and_partial_molar_pregnancies
My diagnosis is very new as well but I have learned a lot in the past few weeks. Please send me a note if you have any specific questions. Hang in there & thinking of you.
The Dr. didn't say if it was partial or complete. She didn't say for sure that it was molar, just that after the D&C they thought it might be. (which from what I've read, I don't quite understand how they wouldn't be able to tell for sure) Originally they just called it a missed miscarriage. She told me we should probably be okay to start trying again after I have a regular period, but at the same time is having me blood tested and from what I read if it is a molar it will be probably at least 6 months before we should start trying. I don't know it's just confusing. I just want to know for sure and be done with all of this. I'm still waiting to hear back about my blood draw yesterday. It's funny I've really liked this Dr., but now that I'm reading more about this I'm questioning a lot.
Thank you for taking the time to share your experiences. I really appreciate that this is a place where I can ramble and ask questions of people who totally understand where I'm coming from.
To be honest, my doc sounded unsure whether mine was a molar or not as well. This isn't that common of a diagnosis (1 in 1000) so there is a chance he/she is not all that familiar with it or used to having to explain it (which was the case with my doc). I requested a copy of the pathology report which pretty much was in another language for me, but it gave me more confidence in what my doc was telling me.
I feel for you! i had a complete molar pregnancy in July 2009. I too googled it and totally freaked myself out, so if you can resist, don't do too much searching. I had to go every week for blood work and once my levels were down to zero, every month. I also had to have a chest xray to make sure the "mole" hadn't travelled anywhere else. (that is where the cancer part comes in). I had to wait nearly a year before trying again, although I hear that isnt always the case. Before I was "cleared", they did an ultrasound to make sure everything looked okay.
