Spanking children. I had the occasional swat on the butt when I was little and I survived just fine. I would first try a verbal warning and time out but I don't have a problem with a giving my children a little smack on the butt if it is really neccessary.
Elective c-sections. Sign me up!
Circumcision. Yes
Giving children under the age of 1 fast food I don't really know what children under the age of 1 can and cannot eat but I don't think a french fry ever killed anyone. I believe things in moderation are okay.

Just throwing this in there - if you haven't done any research on the history and risks of infant circumcision, please do before making the decision either way. I think most parents just do it because it's something that always been done without really thinking about it. My personal opinion is that it is not a far cry from female genital mutilation, and that circumcision is something that each man should be able to choose for himself when he is of age to do so.
Just something to think about...
While I agree (and would hope the ladies on here do so) it is important to research any surgical procedure, be it elective csection or circumcision, it IS a far cry from female genital mutilation, I don't think its at all fair to compare the two things.
Spanking children. I would try almost anything else before I would spank. But I guess I can't say never.
Elective c-sections. I guess that's fine if it's your choice.
Circumcision. I guess I figured I would do it since every male I know is circumcised. I would let DH decide and I'm guessing he would since he is.
Giving children under the age of 1 fast food I don't know that I would keep close tabs on it, like, 1st birthday! Here's your McDonalds! But I wouldn't think so.

I admitted that I am not educated on elective c-section, and of course plan on looking into it further before making that decision.
I respectfully disagree with you on the circumcision issue.
Spanking - I am torn. You cannot rationalize with a 2 year old; on the flip side, you can't tell a toddler no hitting and then spank them.
Elective c-sections - I've had more surgery than I care to think about, and am all to familiar with the pain and complications that can arise, so why would you do itif it wasn't absolutely necessary
Circumcision - yes
Fast food - No...I made the majority of DS's food when he started solids in part because I want him to eat healthy foods.

Spanking children. No, but it'd be hard not to do since I was spanked as a child. I turned out just fine but why teach a child it's ok to hit when angry?
Elective c-sections. Indifferent... I know I don't want one tho!
Spanking children. Depends. It can be used as an effective punishment. Some children simply do not respond to other punishments. I don't think a child should ever fear their parents, and I don't think excessive force or number of spanks should be used, and it should be used as a last resort. I can assure you, I was only spanked once, and any threats of subsequent spanks were met with my immediate obedience.
Elective c-sections. Yes. I want one. I think everyone should have the right to have their ideal birth plan. I think water births are weird, but I wouldn't ever tell anyone they shouldn't have one.
Circumcision. Absolutely
Giving children under the age of 1 fast food Why the helll would you even do that?
Text speak in posts. No. I don't even like text speak in texts.
Fast food isn't going to kill your kid. We moved halfway across the country when my daughter was 10 months old. We had to do an initial drive over to check things out and then another drive a few weeks later to make the actual move. And we stopped at a few McDonalds on the way and got her some milk and chicken nuggets. I wouldn't make a habit of feeding a baby fast food but in certain situations, eh.
As for the issue of elective cesareans, it's not always black and white. Even doctors don't always agree on whether a section is medically necessary or not under certain circumstances. I can think of many circumstances where a section might not be "medically necessary" but could certainly be an understandable choice. Furthermore, the vast majority of elective cesareans done in the US are repeat cesareans. The choice between a VBAC and RCS is often complicated and emotional. So let's not tar all these moms with the "too posh to push" brush. It's more complicated than that and a woman should have the right to make medical choices about her body, including the choice to have a cesarean delivery.
Big sister {September 2008} Sweet boy {April 2011} Fuzzy Bundle {ETA July 2014}
I think it's okay to spank when necessary, but I think that discipline and corrective action should correlate to the misbehavior. Spanking doesn't always do that, and I believe that it can sometimes add to the problem. I was spanked as a kid, and it rarely made me change my behavior, but it always made me hate my dad.
I'm fine with elective c-sections, actually. My MIL had 3 (one was necessary, the others were elective), and my cousin just had one (elective), and both had great experiences. If either gave birth again, they agree that they'd never consider delivering vaginally.
I don't think I know enough about the risks/benefits of circumcision to really have an opinion, but my husband is very much in favor of them. I know that if we ever have a boy, he'll have one.
I hate fast food, so I can't imagine feeding it to my kids often, but my horse certainly isn't so high as for me to say "absolutely never!" I had a cheeseburger or two as a youngster, and I'm sure my kids will too, at some point. (Now, if we're talking frequently--like once a week or more--then I'm against it. But I don't have a problem with the occasional chicken nugget.)
As an English teacher, I have a problem with text speak even in texting! I never use abbreviations for words when texting or typing, and I usually skip over posts that use this type of "language," just because it takes too much time to decipher!

Spanking children. As discipline, yes. A smack on the ass is sometimes a big help in teaching right and wrong. But there is a BIG difference between disciplining children and beating children.
Elective c-sections. As long as it is ok'd by the doctor I have no problems with this. I personally won't chose to, but someone else's pregnancy is not up to me!
Circumcision. Pro-circumcision, but again it's everyone's choice
Giving children under the age of 1 fast food. Hell No.
Text speak in posts. Annoying and lazy. The ladies here are pregnant, trying to conceive, or already parents. We should all be grown up enough to use full words.
Spanking children. Not a fan. I think there are much more effective ways to discipline children that don't involve hitting.
Elective c-sections. Not for me!
Circumcision. DH and I have discussed this. We are not Jewish or Christian, so don't see the point.
Giving children under the age of 1 fast food. Not a fan of this either. We try not to eat fast food ourselves. I won't have a heart attack if my child has a little once though.
Spanking children. Don't personally believe in it. I think it teaches a child to solve their problems by hitting. However, I don't have kids so this may change
Elective c-sections. Not a big fan of the idea but it is a person's choice.
Circumcision. I am on the fence here but DH insists that our son(s) will be.
Giving children under the age of 1 fast food- Yuck, I don't eat it so not going to give it to my baby. Hate this as well as giving little kids soda.
Text speak in posts. Annoying but can't say it doesn't happen here from time to time.

Spanking children. I was spanked maybe 3 or 4 times as a child. I know DH was spanked too, but I think more frequently. We both agree that there are situations that warrant a spank, but as PPs have said, there's a fine line between a spank and abuse. We would like to teach our kids to be respectful and polite without spanking, but it's hard to say at this point.
Elective c-sections. Elective - no. If they're of medical necessity I wouldn't consider them elective.
Circumcision. Yes
Giving children under the age of 1 fast food No

It's your body not mine, but I'll not have one.
I don't believe that there is any more risk with circumcision than vaccines, but I have not done extensive reading on either.

Spanking children: With an open palm, on the butt, or swatting a hand, yes. With an object (belt, spoon, etc), no. There is a huge difference between spanking your kid and beating your kid.
Elective c-sections: No.
Circumcision: Yes.
Giving children under the age of 1 fast food: If the child is 10 or 11 months old and is already eating soft foods, sure, give the kid a french fry. Am I going to hand a baby a hamburger? No.

Spanking children. I was only spanked twice that I can remember. And it made a huge impact. So in extreme moderation. Sure. But certainly not regularly.
Elective c-sections. Nope.
Circumcision. Yes.
Giving children under the age of 1 fast food Definitely not. I don't even eat it myself except on the rarest of occassions, like once every couple of years if I have no other options.
Text speak in posts.I personally find it hard to read. It also seems to correlate to age/maturity level.
Spanking children. I would possibly as a last resort, but I would prefer not to. We'll see what I think once I'm a parent.
Elective c-sections. I used to think I would want one, but now that I've started to TTC, I really don't think I would. I don't care if other people want it, though.
Circumcision. It will be DH's choice, but I'm guessing he will say yes.
Giving children under the age of 1 fast food. I don't eat fast food very often, so not likely. Maybe occasionally once the child is a little older.
Text speak in posts. Not a fan, whether in a post or a text message. My mom was teaching a class at the university near us last fall and she had an adult student turn in a paper with a bunch of text speak in it! They failed that assignment (it was completely off topic, too)...
Spanking children. Yes a light tap enough to get there attention is okay. But I would try other forms of parenting first.
Elective c-sections: No, I think that it is needed for health reasons then it is okay. But if it is on timing that is better for the doctor or mom I dont really like it.
Circumcision. Yes
Giving children under the age of 1 fast food NO
