  • No, dh and I both feel there is no medical or biblical reason to do this anymore and dh isn't.

  • No, because DH is not and we want them to be the same. He was born in France and it was not common practice there unless it was a religious reason.

  • I would like to get our LO circumcised if it's a boy but DH doesn't want to, so I guess we will see!

  • If this is a boy we will not be- there's no good reason to.

Edit: Religious reasoning exempted, though my religion asks me to do all sorts of things that I opt out of.

If we have a boy, we are planning on having a bris, so, yes.

    Edited for clarity

  • Absolutely NOT! Neither of our DS's are. FYI DH is.

  • Nope.  DH is circ'd but did extensive research on the topic and came to the conclusion that there is no medical reason to do it.

  • No, I think it is unnecessary. Our relatives think we are crazy, but it is our choice. I would like to leave that choice up to my son.

i agree with katie - we won't be cir'c.  why bother with an unnecesary medical procedure?  you wouldn't give your baby a nose job would you?

feel free to expand on why this reasoning is idiotic?

you know what i think is idiotic?  when people choose to circ b/c 'it looks the same' or 'it's cleaner'.  or other stupid reasoning.

I think the part that she meant was idiotic was the need for putting that it's an "unnecessary medical procedure" The OP asked if people are getting their son circumcised not the reasoning behind it.

I don't think it's idiotic for people to do it or not, it's their own personal preference and to put people down because they choose a certain way is idiotic.

She didn't put her down- she said that it was an unnecessary procedure. She didn't personally attack anyone, simple stated a fact that circumcision isn't needed (which regardless of your stance on it is a point that can't be argued).

What an odd thing to say...nothing I wrote rings "idiotic" to me.  If you'd like to elaborate then go right ahead.

I would never go off on someone for doing it.  But, it is an unnecessary procedure. The American Academy of Pediatrics agrees.

She is a nurse has mentioned in the past that she believes it to be medically necessary because she has seen penile amputations due to people not taking care of them in the elderly. Obviously her opinion. My mother has been a nurse since God was a boy and has seen several butchered infant penises and is way anti circ.

My question has always been what is the rate of this vs. the rate of botched infant circumcision, which would interest me greatly. And what about the rates in countries where almost nobody is circumcised? I have yet to see any news stories about this happening regularly and in large numbers in those countries.

well, it *is* stupid reasoning.  i will accept medical reasons and even religious reasons....but superficial ones don't float my boat.

    sowwy!
