How did this sneak up on me? (invitation related)

I just realized this morning that we are having DD's birthday party in exactly one month. I haven't done invitations or communication at all. HOW is it only one month away?? :o(

1. How long do tinyprints-type invitations take to order/be delivered?

2. Are there any cutesy evite-type websites that are acceptable to use?

3. How long before the event should birthday invitations be received?

4. Do you have any brilliant ideas that you have used or heard of that you'd recommend to me?

  • I was just going to post something about birthday parties. The post below got me thinking about planning something for Em's third party already, and it's not until April.

I sent my party invites 3-4 weeks in advance. I think with parties it's a little different. I've always designed and printed my own invites, so I'm not sure about how long it takes to get them.

Angel has a BUNCH of party idea links in her blog! Check those out, they're pretty awesome!

  • I totally spaced about donovans 2nd birthday so decided to break my own rule and just send out an evite since ordering invitations and mailing them would take too long. Plus we are on a budget this year with the baby coming.

  • I did a flat photo card from Shutterfly for DS birthday.  It was really cute good quality.  It look longer than I would have liked ( almost 2 weeks) but that was during the height of Christmas card/photo season, so I bet it does not take as long now.

  • We did a "save the date" Shutterfly flat photo card 2 months in advance - and then did an evite a month out to get a more accurate RSVP headcount. If your guest list is smaller - you can easily do cards with RSVP info on them now.  If you make the card you can have them mailed directly from the site - or have them sent to you and get them all out within a week and half or so....but really, I think an evite is fine at this point and then you can do really nice photo thank you cards maybe?
  • I just sent out an evite.  They have some really cute designs.

I sent it out 3/4 weeks in advance.

  • My SIL just makes a cute invite in Word with a picture of my niece & pretty type.  Then emails it to all of us as an attachment.  Works for our family.  We think its cute. :-)
