Acne help

Ok! So this lovely symptom decided to show up! As a teenager I had clear skin and before now I've had clear skin. This is getting worse by the day! I use antibacterial soap and no moisturizer (well not anymore) and I'm not wearing makeup (I rarely do in the summer) Has anyone else had this? What are some solutions you found that works? I'll try anything

Re: Acne help

  • wearing no moisturizer is making it worse. You just need the right kind for you skin. When you wear no moisturizer you are not balancing the oil and water in your skin and your skin produces more oil. I have been using tea tree oil (body shop line and desert essence line) I also use Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel (oil free). As long as you are using the right makeup for your skin; wearing it will not be a problem. During the summer I use Clinique BB cream (oil free) and I love the coverage. What kind of antibacterial soap are you using? There are also a lot of threads on this topic...

Just remember this is caused by your hormones not you. I agree that you should not stop moisturizing it will only cause your skin to be dry irritated acne. You may want to try a mild/sensitive skin cleanser? My recommendation would be to keep the skin care natural and low maintenance. Don't drop a ton of cash on products b/c they will not help your hormones.
If you want a splurge and treat set up a facial. Your skin will be happy for the deep cleaning and extraction of gunk. Look for a place that uses natural products as your pregnant skin is more sensitive.
  • Dial antibacterial. I've always used it. I thought moisturizer was making it worse so I stopped using it. I've used oil of Olay sensitive before.
  • Does it have Salicylic Acid? That's on the no list for preg. If you have more normal- oily skin - using sensitive product not necessary. Are you normal to oily on your skin?
  • I've been using Rodan + Fields Unblemish. It's working great, but you can only get it through independent consultants.
  • Also @yankeebabeme is right about the moisturizer. You absolutely should be using an oil free moisturizer
  • I was having trouble with my skin too, my forehead of all places. I used proactiv for years but when they changed the formula it didn't seem to work as well anymore. Several weeks ago I switched to Aveda Outer Peace face wash and relief lotion and it's working wonders for me. When I need a little extra moisturizer I use Bobbi Brown moisturizing balm. It's hydrating and a little goes a long way. The Aveda products have salicylic acid in them but my OB says sailcylic acid is fine to use.

  • I'm not sure if it has the Salicylic acid in it. My skin has turned oily :/@yankeebabeme just got ur message and I'm going to check it out! Thank you for your help :)
  • I switched to the cetaphil oil control foaming wash which has zinc in it. My skin erupted during pregnancy and it's helped a lot quickly. I'm using Clinique toner and dramatically different moisturizer to balance the oil but no heavy moisturizers. I also stopped using any long wear foundations/concealers and use a BB Cream for foundation in the summer. Good luck!
  • Antibacterial soap is not made for your face, you're only going to dry your skin out more. The more dry it gets, the more it's going to overproduce oil and potentially cause more breakouts. I would use a gentle face wash, nothing made for acne since those ingredients are generally not considered safe in pregnancy, and make sure to moisturize. I use Argon oil (the real stuff, you can buy it from the health food store) as a moisturizer. It's been found to be beneficial to acne because it imitates your skin's natural oils, therefore your skin isn't trying to overproduce to make up for the dryness.

  • @duckinoven fyi Clinique Clarifying lotions all have salicylic acid (I worked for Clinique 10 years)...Normally I use clarif 3. but while preg I'm using either the body shop tea tree oil or desert essence tea tree oil pads.
  • Thanks @yankeebabeme ! My OB and dermatologist said its fine but I didn't use during the first trimester anyway. I was looking at either tea tree or witch hazel toner if my skin continues to be crazy
  • Mama mio gorgeous glow balancing face wash! It's amazing and made specifically for a pregnant women's skin
  • Dab Apple cider vinegar on them
  • Yes, I was going to say Apple cider vinegar! Or mix lemon juice and raw honey and put on face. Or the Belli Skincare spot treatment worked well for me. I've had acne for so long but that stuff really helped
