HI ladies---I'm dropping by from July 2011 moms. I was diagnosed with ITP 15 years ago. After 6 months of treatment we opted to go with the spleenectomy. Before my surgery, my hematologist and my surgeon sat me down and basically told me I can have children but shouldn't! So pretty much since then I've said I would adopt (until we decided we wanted to try for our own first!!!) So here I am. I have had high platelet counts since the surgery (and was even over 400,000 when I went in at 8 weeks!). I am meeting with the high risk specialist tomorrow to see if there are any tests we can do to check the babies count and such. I don't have a clue what questions to ask! I was just hoping to find other ITP moms out there and to see if you are having to take special precautions! I seem to be the only person I know with ITP that was told I shouldn't have babies!!!!
Re: Any ITP Mom's to Be?
The www.pdsa.org site used to have a very active and super supportive board for ITP Moms and Mom's to be. I don't know if it is still active or not. I used to frequent the PDSA boards back when my Aunt and Dad were struggling with ITP - but I haven't really looked in on them in almost 10 years now.
