Are you going to find out the sex? If so, I would wait to register until after you find out. Or, you can start to register and then add gender specific stuff later on. If you are Team Green, then you can register whenever you want.
IMO register for gender neutral things that you can use later on (if you plan on having more children). If you plan on finding out the sex - there will inevitably be people who will not get you something off your registry and will buy you gender-specific things. You don't want to register gender-specific now and be stuck later on.
Also, I read the other day that registering (or at least getting a list together) is advisable around this time. I'm personally compiling a list of things I will DEFINITELY need that I will want to register for. I've also made a list to myself of things to get for me (for BFing). Someone suggested these sites to me to help compile said lists:
Might as well start as soon as you start thinking of things you'd like. It's as good a way as any to remember which bibs or botttles or whatever you like. Your friends and family won't know how early you registered, just that you did before your shower.
We just finished up today and I will be 27 weeks on Friday. We started at about 19 weeks when we found out we were having a boy, still registered for the big stuff in gender neutral, but were then able to pick some stuff for a boy. You may find that after your first run through that it can get a bit overwhelming to do all at one time, and there will be stuff you will decide to want to research further. So starting at around 19 weeks worked for us as it gave us plenty of time to stop in a couple more times later on to wrap-up.Now its done and we can sit back and relax until our shower in late February.
BFP #1 2/10/10: No HB on 4/29/10 at 15 wk, D&C 4/30/10, Baby measured 11-12 wks. First Pregnancy and first loss.
BFP #2 7/25/10: Blake Daniel arrived 3/25/11
BFP #3 3/9/12: Our Turkey Baby! Due Date: 11/19/12
Be sure that your registry is complete before you send out your shower invitations. Registering can take a few days - maybe a few consecutive days if you've still got lots of stamina, or maybe a few days over a few weeks if you're exhausted all the time like me! So make sure that you leave yourself enough time to check out some different places and complete your list.
Re: Registering for shower
We are not finding out the sex. I didn't want to register too early though but wasn't sure of the average time you register.
