Anyone need to re-scan after fetal survey?

So yesterday was our fetal survey. Took forever, as baby didn't want to roll over. Of course, you never find anything out, but when I asked the tech if everything looked ok she said "yes".

Today I got a call saying that they needed to schedule me for a re-scan in a week because they want to look at the AFI (amniotic fluid index) and to do a color doppler over the cervix. When I asked why those were needed the lady said that the radiologist wanted to get a better look and it didn't mean anything was wrong. Now, I'm a nurse and I've told that to a lot of people, knowing full-well that things weren't totally normal but we didn't have all the info we needed yet. So of course, I'm freaking out.

Anyone have any insight? Thanks!!

We had our scan yesterday and they want us to come back in 2weeks. They are saying that they need a better profile picture.? Not sure on because as she was measuring baby she would tell us what she was doing, they also could not tell us 100% percent if we were having a girl. She said 89% sure but we could look again when we come back. Did my cervix ck at same visit and that measured ok but they will want to redo when I come back per the doctor that seemed strange to me. Hope we both have some answers soon and that LO's are ok.

Well one of the reasons ours took so long (an hour and a half) was because baby wouldn't roll over and the tech couldn't get a good profile pic. I had to walk in the hallway for a while and roll on my side a couple times to get her to flip. The tech said if they couldn't get a profile view we would have to come back for a re-scan. Luckily, she FINALLY rolled over and they got the measurements. Apparently they take pretty detailed measurements of the mouth and upper lip? So, sounds like that's what happened to you.

Thats frustrating because I asked if I needed to get up and try to walk around. I work in radiology (billing) so in back of my mind I thought that would have helped but the tech we had said no. Wish we could have tried instead of having to reschedule in 2weeks. Bright side is I get to see little one again!

I was nervous at first about needed another ultrasound, but my fears have subsided!

They just didn't get all the pictures they wanted and need more.

How soon are they going to get you back in? Do you remember them calling out what your cervix measured? Hope you get answers soon considering the more in-depth tests they want.

That is frustrating! But you're right, at least you get to see little one again! AND you have a better chance of finding out of it's a boy or a girl! :-)

I go back a week from today (they said they have to wait at least 4 days between scans - don't know why). I have no idea what the cervix measurements are... They didn't do a transvaginal exam, so I guess I don't know if they can tell from a regular ultrasound. No idea.

I'm actually going back for my rescan tomorrow. We had our first one at 18 weeks, but he refused to cooperate and let us get all of the measurements we need. We saw enough to know we're having a boy, his brain looked okay, the four chambers of his heart look okay, his spine looked good and they figure he's only a few days off from the original due date (he's measuring slightly bigger). They also have to measure my cervix when I go back (this'll be my 3rd measurement).

Several years ago, when I was still in college I had precancer cells and had to have a LEEP done. Because of that procedure they measure my cervix to make sure it's still long. If the cervix shortens too much the pressure of the baby can cause the cervix to open up, making baby come too soon (it's called an incompetent cervix). The first time my cervix was measured it was 3cm the second time it was 3.2cm. The doctor said as long as my cervix stayed above 3cm I was fine, if it goes much shorter than that they'll do a cerclage, they'll just put a stitch in the cervix to keep it shut. Then later on in the pregnancy (30-something weeks) they'll take the stitch out to allow the cervix to open for birth.

The first time they did my cervical measurement they were able to tell by an abdominal ultrasound. The second time they had to do a trans. because of how my bean was sitting on it. He was pushing it down below where they could see. I'm praying I don't have to have another trans. tomorrow.

I agree with the others though--don't worry too much. You'll get to see your little baby again I've actually had an ultrasound at every appointment I've had, so tomorrow's makes my 5th. It's silly but it's the highlight of my month when I get to go to the doctor to see and hear my baby

Bethi, I had to re-do the anatomy scan just yesterday. I had it done on the 20th and we were there for like an hour. Tech took pictures, told us everything looked okay. Radiologist came in and took more pictures. We asked if everything was ok and he said yes. However, I got a call on Thursday the 23rd from my OB that I needed to re-do the scan because they couldn't see all of the baby's heart. Of course, I was a mess all weekend because I was upset they didn't tell me initially they were having trouble.

Anyhow, fast forward to Monday, we went back, baby cooperated and they said they saw all the 4 chambers of his heart and we were good to go.

First instinct is to panic, I know, but hang in there. At least they're being thorough

We had our scan today, and she couldn't get all of the measurements. We are scheduled for January 25th for our follow up. I am sure its nothing, just relax and enjoy the last few days of 2010!!
