Ugh, depressed about crib prices

We went to Baby's First. There were only two cribs that we actually liked. The Young America Ma Marie stationary crib and an iron crib that I think was by Romina or Munire (but I can't find on their websites). They were $900+ each...just for the crib. I think our bed was only $1200!

Any other stores to try with those brands? I shopped online but Baby's First actually had the best prices. Ugh, ugh, ugh. I hate spending that much on something that isn't an heirloom or anything.

  • Places that we're looking at LandofNod, Pottery Barn Kids, and JCPenney

They all seem priced relatively well. I've seen the PBK ones and I liked them, I'm checking out the LandofNod one this week while in Chicago, and then I've heard from a couple people that the JCP ones are a pretty decent quality.

  • I got a fabulous crib on Amazon for less than $300. It converts into a toddler bed and a full size bed.

  • Joe's crib is Munire and is excellent quality! It is now converted to a full zised bed and still looks terrific. He will probably have it until he goes off to college.

  • I'd look at Craig's List.  We totally regret spending big bucks on fancy furniture for Luca.  He's dented it up and when we moved it didn't fit right into his new room.  If I had it to do over, I'd by one from Craig's List and let someone else take the hit on it.

We bought Lila's used and I couldn't be happier.  I will gladly take it to the curb (it's a drop side) and buy her something else when she's past "crib".  I feel obligated to keep going with Luca's (convertable) because we spent so much.

    Just my 2 cents...

  • ours is from JCP. It's one of the top two ranked in safety etc from Consumer Reports. It was around $250.

  • The Ma Marie is super similar to F's crib, the picture looks identical, I am guessing it is the rebranded non-dropside version.  I found it here for $729, which is what I remember paying at Baby's 1st for it.

That was DH's top pick (and one of my top three)! We will probably end up getting it. The one I wanted was slightly impractical, but sooo gorgeous. DH wasn't crazy about it, it was pretty girly and wouldn't be reused if we have a boy.

I have really loved ours, it is a fantastic crib.  I paired it with JCP dresser/changer which was $300 or so, so it evened out.

  • Ikea has great cribs and they are lower priced than many of the other stores. We bought a Leksvik for $129 and it converts into a toddler bed. Can't go wrong with Ikea.

Ikea had the top rated crib according to Consumer Reports.

They have great deals...and I have a $500 gift certificate to there...but my heart is set on a very un-modern nursery look, unfortunately. Sigh.
