High heels and pregnancy

I love my heels, in fact most of my shoes have heels. That being said I have not worn heels for weeks and weeks. With the terrible m/s I was having, it was a comfort thing.

Looking online at maternity clothes it seems that all the models are wearing huge heels. Huge heels and a huge belly just seem like a bad idea. Sure, I can see wearing them every now and then when you need to dress up, but every day for work?

So, I'm interested to know

Do you wear high heels now?

Do you think you will wear high heels when you are far bigger?

Re: High heels and pregnancy

  • I wear heels now, usually no higher than 3" though. Looking online at maternity clothes, I totally thought the same thing about the women in super high heels with the big bump. Seems dangerous to me - but I'm clumsy now!

  • I'm a HUGE stiletto girl but I'm not wearing heels because it's winter in NYS and I live in my Uggs pretty much. I do have a pair of boots with an aprox. 2.5-3" heel that I feel comfortable in, but the heel is on the chunky side. My mom, aunt and co workers have all warned me that if they see me in heels they're going to yell at me. Stick out tongue

I guess it's just a comfort thing - I'd love to say that I'll be wearing heels in the summer, but with a huge twin pregnant belly I really don't think I'll risk wearing heels.

  • I usually wear REALLY high heels but if I am not comfortable or feel like my equilibrium if off, I'll wear flats.  I am not going to risk falling down or hurting my feet and ankles.

  • Yeah, that's advertising for you. No, I don't wear heels, but I have hip displasia and the only heels I can wear are way expensive, so I only have one pair.

  • I wear high heels every day at work, always have.  But I have no idea how I'll feel about them further down the road.  All of my work pants are tailored for heels, so I'll have to buy short maternity pants if I plan on wearing flats at some point.

  • the reason to not wear heals is for balance.  When your belly gets bigger you may not feel balanced wearing them.  I wore them for most of my previous pregnancy and handled it fine. I'm still wearing them now but only the 2 days I work and to church.

  • I wear high heels all day everyday. Even when I was really sick with MS or walking a lot, I still can't help myself but to wear heels! I plan on wearing them the whole time!
  • I wore heels (and am now) through a good part of my past pg. Not towards the end though, at that point I just didn't care and it was all flip flops. And it's funny that both my friend and I have worn heels WAY less after having our babies. We are both all about flats with the occasional heel.
  • I wear heels occasionally since I'm not working these days, but I only stick to whatever feels comfortable.  Pretty sure I will avoid heels once the heat in FL comes back and my feet get swollen though.

  • My mom has some pretty awful bunions now and she always tells me that she thinks it was because she wore heels throughout her pregnancies. I have no idea if that's true or not (to be fair, she wore heels throughout much of her youth) but I'm probably going to avoid heels as soon as I start feeling big/unbalanced/uncomfortable.

It's kind of moot now because I hardly ever wear heels anyway, only to church on weekends and some special occasions. My workplace is pretty casual so there's no need.

  • I wear heels now (about 9.5 weeks).

I also wore heels throughout most of my previous pregnancy.  I wore them regularly (though retired some of the higher/less comfortable ones) for at least 6-7 months.  The last couple of months it was summer, and I only wore them for court appearances and special occasions.

  • Yes to both questions. I wear heels every day, love them, and don't see myself trading them in any time soon.

  • I wear heels now about 2 1/2- 3 inches for work but normally carry flats with me to change into.  I am living in my uggs except m-f for the office where I am in a suit and wear heels. Weekends I am in uggs because it is freezing here.  Towards the end of pg I will prob be wearing whatever fits and is comfortable.  pg swelling + summer swelling will not be my friend for sure.

  • I wear 3 inch heels at work everyday.  During my first pregnancy I wore heels until I was 8.5 months pregnant.  Had to give them up because my feet swelled up during the last weeks of pregnancy, could not squeeze them in my stilettos anymore.

  • I'm glad you posted this. I wear heels every day for work, and when I'm going out on the weekends (which admittedly isn't much these days). I've had about 4 people say something about it to me lately (including my own OB and a family friend who is one too) -like, "Better plan on switching to flats soon." UGH. I'm actually looking now for a few pairs of wedge heels that still look professional. They're better balance wise.
