3rd Trimester

Cramping, contractions and pain...wwyd?

This weekend while I was away visiting family I had pretty consistent BH the entire time, accompanied by occaisional cramping and pain just under my boobs and above my bump and also in my middle back, both on the right side.  Sitting and resting doesn't seem to make a difference.

I'm trying to decide if I should go in tomorrow or just chalk this up to an annoyance of pregnancy.  My dr.'s office is closed tomorrow, but I'm waiting on some pre-e lab results and plan to call the on call midwife for them tomorrow and I'll mention my symptoms to her and see what she says, I just want to feel prepared if I end up going in tomorrow.

  • I wouldn't go in unless they are extremely painful and/or you have bleeding with them.  BH are just part of being pregnant.

  • You could have overdone yourself or you are dehydrated, all of which can make BH flare up.

If you are having more then 4-5 an hour and/or abnormal discharge then I would go in otherwise down a minimum of two big glasses of water and lay on your side and see if that helps.

  • If your dr or insurance has an advice line, you could call them.

Some other thoughts: when was the last time you had a BM? During PG your intestines are squished up under your breasts. If you are not regular try some Colace and fiber. I had terrible pain under my right breast, so bad I went to the hospital because the advice line thought it might be my gallbladder. It was consipation. Embarrassed Oops!

As for the BH--you mention sitting doesn't help, but what about laying down? Are you drinking enough? Were you stressed out with the family?

  • yeah I'd wait it out, drink some extra fluids and get extra rest. this last week was really stressful/busy to me so I spent all day today relaxing and feel much better now. Resting does take a while to set in though and fluid intake.

ya... I feel like I'm getting contractions then realize I need to poooo....

  • Honestly, this sounds very much like my gallbladder attacks.  I thought I was constipated when I had the first one at about 6 months pregnant with DS.  It ended up going away (as the attacks do), so I let it go.  I didn't have another one until after DS was born, chalked it up to more constipation, and by the 3rd attack, I figured it out.  The pain was just as you describe.  Please, please get it checked out.  There are big risks of gallbladder problems if you don't get it taken care of.  I hope it's not a gallbladder attack, though!
