Baby Names

Opinion on names that end in -son

DH and I are set (we think) on a couple of girl names but are still trying to pick out some boy names and we both really like names ending in -son. Our last name starts with a Z and ends in er.

What do you think about

Benson

Grayson/Greyson (does a nn Gray/Grey sound ok)

Kyson (we both already talked about the name Kai and like it but like this more)

Thanks ladies - love your honest opinions on this board and HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Re: Opinion on names that end in -son

  • Benson is terrible and makes me think of that old TV Sitcom from like the 80s.  https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0078569/

    Grayson is fine.

Kyson seems really silly and made up to me, and it reads as feminine.

ETA:  Sorry, I misread your post and thought you were asking about these names for a girl.

  • Benson is a good name.  i like it.  reminds me of law and order SVU.

    Grayson is over done, IMO.

Kyson just sounds made up to me.

my DS is Jackson.  the list for 2010 came out and he is #3 on the list.

  • I can tolerate them for a boy (hate them for girls, as girls are not sons). Grayson is okay. I'm a fan of Harrison. I like Kai, but not Kyson.

Ditto, except Benson for me, also sounds like a dog name :(

  • I like Grayson (Gray) best of your choices.  I prefer Harrison, Dawson or Jackson when it comes to -son names.
  • I think all of your choices sound like boys names.  Although I like the nickname Kai

  • This is an easy one:

    No to all of them.

  • If our LO would have been a boy we were going to name him Eason . Just throwing it out there but if I had to pick I like Grayson

Because she's looking for boy names?

  • NMS and not really a fan.

Grayson would be the best of them all.

  • Benson - This is a town near me in AZ.  It's one big attraction is a Walmart.  I think I would steer clear of this one.

Grayson/Greyson (does a nn Gray/Grey sound ok) - I actually really like this one.  It's one of the only "son" names that I like.  I also like Gray/Grey as a nn.

Kyson (we both already talked about the name Kai and like it but like this more) - No.  Just no.  If you like Kai I would go with that instead.  Kyson just sounds wrong and made up.

  • I LOVE the name Grayson. It is the name I have always wanted to name a boy if I ever have one!
  • Benson reminds me of Benson & Hedges cigarettes. Like you named him after your favorite brand. Other than that, i like it.

Greyson with an E i like better for some odd reason. But its pretty popular for my taste,

Kyson does sound made up, but who cares. Its a cool name.  I liek it esp with the nickname your gonna go with.

  • LO's middle name will be Greyson.  First name George, but his nn will be Grey.

I think some of the -son names can be trendy, but I really wanted to use it as a middle name.

IMO, Benson is better than Kyson but Greyson is a personal favorite.  I like the Gre- spelling better than Gra.  I thought the a looked too feminine.

  • I actually kinda like Benson too. It is different, but not too out there.

Grayson I like, but I feel like it is pretty popular.  If you don't mind that though, go for it! I think it is a really nice name.

I really don't like Kyson at all, but I do like Kai.

What about Harrison, Edison, Bronson, Jameson??

  • There are some I like, most I don't.

Benson is okay, Grayson is NMS, and Kyson sounds made up (No).

  • Besides Jason, I can't think of one name that I even remotely like that ends in -son.
  • Am I the only one who thinks "Grey" is a weird nickname/name for a child? Are people trying to copy Grey's Anatomy??? Also I have an ex whos last name is Grayson so I just can't see it as a first name.

  • I like Grayson the best.  I also love Jameson.  My husband and I both have Irish first names and like Irish names for boys.  Good luck deciding!
  • "-son" names tend to sound a little pretentious to me. Of your choices, I think I like Benson the best.

  • I guess I dont mind Benson.

    What about Anderson?

I think it's pretty weird, too. Such a drab, dreary color; why would you want to call your kid that? And why would you want to call your kid a color anyway? I don't know; are people going to start trying to call their kids White, Red, Orange?

  • I like -son names...ds is Bronson and we get lots of compliments (although it is mostly disliked on thenest). Of your names I like Benson the best...another option to consider: Hudson. GL!
