Finding out sex at 13 weeks?

I just had my CT scan....

We do not want to know the sex of the baby. Team Green.

During the ultrasound the doctor asked "Oh! Do you want to know the sex?"

We said no and it went on and we left.

But I can't help to think it is a boy since it is so early and she could clearly see the sex of the baby.

  • They can make a guess, but it could very likely change.  13w is really early.

  • We're Team Green too.  When we went in on Monday at 6w5d for the first u/s, DH goes REALLY LOUDLY,  "now we don't want to know about any Cowboy parts!!"  First off, I just about died laughing. I mean "cowboy parts?"  What the?  Then I told him, don't worry it is way too early. I asked my doctor and he said they could guess around 13 but to be sure it would be around 20 weeks - so for us to make sure to tell the OB not to say anything at that appointment

  • I can't help but to feel kinda bummed out. I mean, I honestly don't care about the sex of the baby-- as long as the baby is healthy! But I really wanted to be surprised this time.....and I feel let down because I feel like it was given away.

    Maybe not though, IDK.......

  • we had an emergency u/s with DS at 15 wks, and we could see his "boy parts" then...but the tech refused to say what the sex was b/c it was "way too early". We went back at 19 wks and found out it was, in fact--a boy :) so it's possible, but I wouldn't assume it's a boy b/c they could tell so easily. There's been some pretty obvious girly u/s's also.

  • At 13 weeks both boys and girls look very similar still.  I would not worry about this.

  • Oh no! Maybe she meant it more like 'are you finding out?' than implying she could tell?? I'm sorry. I know it stinks that now you're thinking about it.

We were told DS was a boy at 12.5 weeks. However my SIL got a guess of a girl around that timeframe & later found out she was having a boy, so you really never know what she thought it was. She could just as easily have been about to tell you she thought it was a girl.

  • Here is a website that shows the difference between boy and girl anatomy at 12 weeks.  Try not to read too much into what the tech said or you will drive yourself crazy.
